  • Default found on a account closed

Hi people, thanks to all for the warm welcome!

I have been reading a lot of threads lately for removal of defaults as I have recently applied for a loan and got declined. upon finding this out I went and got my credit report and found that I have a default against me by Lloyds for a current account. now to my knowledge this account was closed in 2005 aprx. So I have NO idea why I have a default against me as I thought the account was closed years ago. I have no paper work for the account in question being closed as these were destroyed years ago as I thought I didn't need them any longer. This default is for £978. I really don't know how to go about trying to get this removed getting information about it or anything. I don't want to go the wrong way and cause my self problems. I have made a mistake of phoning the bank up, but they have said they have NO account information about me let alone anything about the default.

    Account opened in 1999
    account closed in 2005-2006
    default placed in 2008
this information is on my credit report.
if someone could tell me what I should do to trying to find why this is happened and if I have anyway of getting off my credit report as I have been declined credit.

    Many thanks in advance

Re: Default found on a account closed

    just another note.

I have appealed to the decline of my loan request but I have been told with the default being only 3 years old it wont make a difference. All my accounts are run correctly with no hic ups in any fashion. so i do believe that this default is causing me the issue in getting my loan.

But now the loan is not really the problem. the problem is getting this default sorted.

        thankss for the reply.

ive had a look at that before and i thought it wouldn't help me due to the fact its a current account. plus I have no account information what's so ever. no account number or sort code. even the bank couldn't supply me this.

Re: Default found on a account closed

Have you seen your credit file with experian / equifax? If not get those then come back to us as without seeing for yourself, we can't help much.

Thing is, a 3yr old default wouldn't matter that much usually so I have doubts. Also the lender wouldn't tell you this, they'd just say "due to adverse data showing on your credit file"...

Please clarify - however it sounds like you may have had interest or summat added to the account prior to closure which kept it open - but the bank should still have written out. Anyway, please advise if you've seen your CRF's.

                Cheers

Hi, yes I have seen my credit file. Only with experian though. This is how I found out that I had a default against me.

the loan company wrote " unfortunately on this occasion we cant approve your application. this is because the information you provided means that your application falls outside of our current creditt policy for lending."

Right ok, so they've inadvertently told you by using that particular quote - well spotted. ie a default would usually mean you're illegible to apply thus would have been instantly rejected. That said, some banks only search back 3 years so for them to have picked up on it must mean its this side of 3 years and/or there are other things since the default that could have warranted a full 6 year search?

Anyway, I digress. Can you actually confirm the details of this default please, ie get your credit file and confirm the basic details as shown here

ie the default date, the amount of default, date updated, settled date (if applicable)...

                      Thanks

Sorry having read the above post - you need to first of all find out what is going on and why there is a default so send the following to the bank with £10 - they must respond, and they will have data - if not then the default will need to be removed!

You do not need the account number or anything, as a SAR is about a person not an account (ie all data pertaining to you, not any account) - therefore delete that line and just ensure that you provide your full name, date of birth and addresses spanning the account period, so ideally your last 6 years worth of addresses.

That will cover it, if you can also screen print the actual default notice from Experian and then send a copy with the SAR and say "see attached copy of a default, as I do not know what this is for please supply all details you hold about me"

that would replace the start of the template, so it explains why you attached a copy - plus the code will help them locate you.
