  • Unknown debt via 1st Credit Limited

    Hi,

Newbie on here so apologies if this is covered elsewhere. Have been search the forums for couple of hours but couldn't find anything in a similar state.

Brief overview, I've received a letter a month or so ago from '1st Credit Limited' saying I owed money and that I needed to contact them blah blah. From previous searches on-line I decided to ignore it as I know I'm not in debt to anyone, apart from the mortgage company. I have credit cards but these are paid off either fully or the minimum payment each month (one has a balance on which is currently charging 0% hence I'm paying the minimum for the moment). I don't have any bank loans or other loans.

Received a 'Final Notice' letter issued by 'Capital Resolve Ltd' on behalf of '1St Credit Limited' giving me until 26th October 2012 (only received this on the 21st October) to either pay the debt (£359.00) in full or telephone a 'Debt counsellor'. Googling 'Capital Resolve Ltd' it seems that '1st Credit Limited' have changed their name to 'Capital Resolve' with the same address.

I decided to have a further 'dig' about into my credit rating. Tried Noddle first with nothing on here and a high rating, then moved to Equifax for their £2 statutory listing. I had done this back in November 2010 which showed full greens on everything.

Today however I see that there is an entry for 'Loan from 1st Credit Ltd' under my name, with the same balance with a start date of 08/08/2005 (so why it wasn't on the last one is beyond me!). It also shows I've made no payments (not surprising as I don't know anything about it) and that I defaulted on 30/10/2009.

Now I'm a mixture of angry, puzzled, confused, scared, fed up etc etc.

I'm unsure of the next move. I'm confident that I don't owe them anything, I've got no loans, none of my credit cards are used as credit cards apart from a new one I got back in september 2012 (for the special 0% offer on purchases - which got approved no problem), so I'm sure they are trying it on.

Whats the best way forward? Do I ring these people, email them, write a letter?

I like the look of some of the templates available but I'm not sure if this is too heavy handed to start with. I've also read advice about not phoning them as once they get a number they can harass you.

Hope I've posted this in the right forum.

    Thanks

Could it be for a old utility bill or council tax???

I would write to them using the approve it template.

Redcol and welcome. It may be wise to remove your name from the bottom of your post just to be extra safe

Don't think so. I had previous 'phishing' attempts at my old address from '1st Credit' initially with no name attached just 'the homeowner'. These I ignored. I suspect they managed to get my details from somewhere else.

I moved recently (approx 2 years ago) but all bills were settled at that point.

1st Credit seem to like looking up addresses on people's credit files and sending letters off to them without any further checking. DAMHIK!

There's a good possibility that your address was listed as an alternative address for a debtor that they were chasing at some time and so they thought it worth a punt (if I'm not being too generous by assuming they are capable of sentient thought processes) it would be worth dispatching a letter to see what they could get from it.

Also, once you receive a reply and if they basically say sorry, we will need to get the entry on the CRA sorted out as thats clearly not on.

[QUOTE=Flowerpower;248212]Hi redcol and welcome to AAD!

We have a template letter you can send to find out what they're on about or else leave you alone ---> Our Templates | Harassment & Intimidation Templates | You know nothing of the Debt / Prove It

I was looking at these wondering if this would be the best way to start the process off. Is this the best route with 1st Credit rather than paying 0844 costs on a phone call?

We are all very well acquainted with 1st Crud round here...

Hmm they did seem rather popular on a number of google searches, just my luck that I end up with them on my case

Thanks for such a quick response and advice on this, really helps.

Yes I did start down the approach of thinking 'I need to complain to Experian' but figured they would contact 1st Credit regarding this so I guess its best to sort them out first before tackling the credit agencies.

Such fun! Not like I've got anything else to do, so frustrated that its this easy for them to put someone in the hot water....

Definitely write to them and keep everything in writing. Keep copies of the letters you send and receive, they may come in handy when you contact the CRAs.
Don't worry, they were on my case too, a few months ago, and it was all resolved satisfactorily with Niddy's help.
Yes this makes sense. Right time to power up Word, download the template and dust off the printer, haven't used that in a while!

Thanks again for your help, I'll post back with progress....

I'm familiar with 1st credit. If you email me a copy of the letter they sent you I'll contact my contact there and get an explanation for you/resolution.

                      Much quicker process.

1st credit always add a CRA entry when they are assigned debts. If its not yours they'll remove it.

Don't worry too much about this. Think back did you ever have a HBOS loan? They work a lot of HBOS cases.

Thanks for your offer. I'll email you a copy of the letter I received yesterday from 1st Credit.

I've never had a loan with HBOS, although I do have a current account with Halifax and a Halifax branded credit card. Had a student overdraft many (10+) years ago, but long since paid that off.

Let me know if you need anything else from me.
