Hello all
Just thought I would keep a diary on this blog cos I think this could run and run and I hope it might help others or if anyone has any advice then please feel free to comment.
It all started out of the blue March 2012 when I received a letter addressed to me but with a wrong initial. I opened it.
It was from Aktiv Kapital with an outstanding bill.
It was for a credit card which I had years ago. It was for an outstanding debt which I knew was not outstanding plus I am convinced it's a case of mistaken ID.
Anyway, I ignored it. And the diary is now like this:
Mar 2012 - Aktiv Kapital (AK) outstanding amount (initial letter)
April 2012 - AK Still outsanding
May 2012 - AK Special Offer 80% off!
June 2012 - AK Reminder of special offer
July 2012 - Buchanan Clark & Wells (BCW) - Formal Demand
Aug 2012 - BCW - Still outsanding
Sept 2012 - BCW Special Offer
Oct 2012 - BCW Impending Debt collector
Mar 2013 - Credit Security (CS) - Debt Collector
In the all the above I've ignored them - I think that's been the general advice from all forums.
But now a little twist. I received a phone call on my mobile (how on earth they got my mobile number I don't know) . I answered the phone as 'AC' and a woman said she was looking for 'Mr ABC'. (btw..these initials are just for reference). I knew immediately it was from one of the above as all the letters are addressed to 'Mr ABC', I'm simply 'AC'. I said they had the wrong number and the wrong person. They said it must be a typo and I said I don't think so. Anyway, they wanted me to confirm my address which I refused and I said again they have the wrong person and put the phone down. I've now saved their number in my phone under 'CRAP' so if 'CRAP' calls in my display I know not to answer it.
I'm betting on receiving a letter addressed to 'Mr AC' instead of 'Mr ABC'.
I will update you next month on events.
I'm pretty sure I'm in the right as the name is wrong (albeit by one letter). The debt I simply do not recognise - I have records going back to 1997! (I know, sad but true but I'm a bit of geek when it comes finance).
Will keep you informed!
