  • Foolish mistakes as a teenager

Ok so here we go, I have totally and utterly messed up every aspect of my credit.
Checked my credit file last week and to date I have 4 defaults and 1 ccj.

Stupidly taking great amounts of credit once I was eligible and then not being able to repay them. (Silly teenager who would not listen to advice)
So now 2/3 years later I am older and wiser and need to drastically change my circumstances, stop getting phone calls at work and threatening letters at home.

I hold my hands up and say this is all my own fault for not paying my bills.
I would love to get all my defaults removed but I am a realist and know I dont stand a chance in hell.
But not sure what steps to take in order to at least bring my credit into order.

For 1 of my defaults I know I received a default notification (ace catalogue) which I stupidly threw in the bin and ignored. This is for £233.
02 have gave me a default, not sure about notification. Approx £480
I have two from lowell who I don't believe sent me notices they were acting on behalf of:
capital 1, default £334 although this is higher than my credit limit.
Another that says communication which I believe may be virgin but not sure £189 Default.

I am not sure where to go next, I am not denying that these are my credit accounts that I have defaulted but wondering if it would be worth while sending them a letter offering a percentage of payment to remove default.
Or in the case of lowell sending a letter asking for default notification.
Or whether I should just call them and offer weekly payments and wait till for the next 3/4 years pass to remove defaults.
I have no letters from any of these companies as I sort of put them in the bin. (I know, another huge mistake)

Oh and to top it all off I have a ccj for non payment of a pay-day loan ( I know, a complete and utter mess) I know that is stuck with me but thought I'd let you know what your up against )

Also just like to note I have a number of other debts that have not been reported to the credit agencies which I have made agreements to pay, I think these total approx £2000 but I paying about £5 per week to each company.

Any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

    Hiya

Ok, well the first thing to do is to read this and do as I request, for each account you have - all accounts, including the ones totalling £2k cos your credit file is knackered and will stay that way (unfortunately) so we may as well try for UE across the board...

See this and respond as appropriately (on here): ---> viewtopic.php?p=6789#p6789

Regards to the CCJ for the payday loan, who was the loan with and when were you CCJ'd?

Sort me with the info requested and i'll respond better..... don;t worry though, the sooner you respond the sooner we'll sort this mess for you. ;30 Don't worry though, we'll get there ok? 2

I'll try dig out any old letters I may have filed away somewhere for all the accounts,
(but I'm 99.9% sure I wont be able to find them ) and I'll get the other info from Experian.

Should have it done for you by some time tonight.

      Thanks Niddy

The start of getting back on my feet : )

        Hello all,
Newbie here seeking some sort of help to sort myself out.
In comparison to some diaries I have seen, my accounts are very small amounts, but still want to sort myself out get myself back on track as am still in my early 20's and already run myself into the ground ;P-; .
        So here goes:

        02 £482
        Started 10/08/07
        Defaulted 23/08/08
Last paid 06/08 as disputed amount
Not sure of last time I received communication from them.
Wondering if it is worthwhile sending a letter asking for default removal for % of payment.

        Lowell Communications £189
        Started 14/07/2006
        Defaulted 06/04/2008
Don't know last payment as not quite sure what this account is, maybe virgin (stupidly let my partner get a contract but thought that was paid.)
Never received default notification, thinking of asking for removal for payment.

        Lowell £334 (Capital 1)
        Started 02/02/2007
        Defaulted 23/10/2007
Last Payment 2007, communication through Lowell, no default notification.

        Ace £233
        Started 22/07/2007
        Defaulted 04/05/2008
        Last payment 2008
Received default notification, wondering if should offer % for removal.

        CCJ Tower Capital Payday Loan
        Took out sometime 01/08
        Kept extending to approx 02/09
CCJ Received 31/01/2010 (my own fault as changed bank details as couldn't afford to pay back at once)

All the above are on my credit file the debts below are ones that I am paying,

        United Utilities £2304.61
        £5 per week.

        Txt Loan £246 (Fredrickson International)
        £5 per week.

        Avon Cosmetics £387.27 (Robinson way)
        £5 per week

Council Tax (Equita Baliffs (2007/08 debt) £1000
        Paid £350, £650 outstanding
        £10 per week

There are others ( ;F- ) but can not locate any paper work.

What has happened was basically applied for what credit I could, starting making payments then lowered my hours in work, borrowed from peter to pay paul then found I was in over my head and stopped paying. (with the addition of my son)

MY CREDIT IS NOW HORRENDOUS, not that I am intending to ever apply again lol, just want to rectify what I can, either by payment offers or best case scenario remove 1 or 2 defaults to eventually get back on my feet.
In future I would love to get a mortgage, at this rate no-one would ever look at me.
        Sorry for long post
        xx

Best of luck - keep this thread updated and i'll keep popping in to see how you're doing. Use your memory if you can, it doesn't have to be 100% spot on - just rough estimates, like if you had a debt from 2000 it wouldn't matter if you said 1998 or 2002 - where it does matter is if you had one from "around" 2006/2007.....

Oh one other thing, whatever you do stop banking with any linked company as they will utilise roso and take your money! What I mean is say you have a bank account with lloyds, and a debt with them that you're looking for UE with then stop paying into that bank account cos they will pinch your dosh! Its legal and above baord, just google right of setoff.

          Cheers

Re: Foolish mistakes as a teenager

                Morning NID,
well for the life of me I can not find any more paperwork,
but my crystal ball tells me I will receive more letters in the post eventually lol,
so just have to update when I can.

                Payday default is Tower Capital.
Payday am paying is errr in my diary lol (me and paper work don't mix)

Just checked diary, the 1 am paying is txt loan,
NID, my sensible head is telling me to just call the companies and offer £1 per week forget about asking for default removal and just live with them till the defaults remove after 6 years as my debts are relatively small.
I am already paying most of them anyway.

                  Hiya

I see what you mean, thing is they are not the usual bog standard debts either - i'd be prone to wait 6yrs for statute barred.... they cannot get blood from a stone, right?

So nid what are the rules around statute barred?
Is it only if you have made no contact or just after 6 years regardless??
How d'ya think they'll react to accepting £1 per week? If they start being funny can I tell them to accept it or their not getting paid lol.

Re: Foolish mistakes as a teenager

                      Hiya

SB'd basically means that yea, so long as you have not paid or acknowledged the debt (usually in writing) then at the end of 6yrs it is legally written off, as such. You never have to pay it. Similarly, with your defaults/ccj they will vanish after 6yrs regardless of whether you pay or do not pay.

The ccj can be re-applied for, but it will not get approved because the judge will want exceptional reasons why they didn't enforce it over the last 6yrs if you see what I mean.... so basically, if I was you i'd hide - sit it out. They can't do much - and if they try, let us know here what they try and scare you with and we'll sort you the appropriate response..... but definitely consider hiding/stop paying etc....

As you say, if they get clever offer £1 per week to them all - let them sweat it for the next 30 years!
