Hi there
After struggling with my Barclaycard Goldfish repayments (legacy of messy divorce), but always being able to make at least the minimum amounts despite Barclaycard Goldfish (BG) hiking up the interest rate to astronomical levels, I am now in the position where I am unable to meet even the minimum.
This is due to the usual - illness, coupled with redundancy and family problems.
My first token payment was in September (of about £60 compared to the required £221). I used the explanation letter template from National Debtline, along with my personal budget sheet, detailing the amounts (pro rata) which I could afford to pay to each creditor.
However, BG’s only response has been to bombard me with calls (which I do not answer), write letters demanding payment and still add interest.
I was prepared to be co-operative by making the best payment I could because of my circumstances. However, they don’t want to know, so I thought ‘sod them’ and go down the CCA route.
I have had the card for many years when it was originally just Goldfish. I sent Niddy’s letter on 8 November (which is showing by the Post Office today as ‘being progressed through our network for delivery’). Do you think they are now deliberately rejecting recorded delivery letters? I was thinking of sending another one just by ordinary mail, but getting a proof of posting. My thoughts were that they could deny that one letter didn’t reach them, but two?
Anyway, in the meantime I have had a letter from Mercers on 12 November saying that the debt had been passed on to them, asking for payment of arrears etc.
Could you please advise how I should respond to them? As they have now taken over the debt do I send them the CCA request or tell them that I have made it already to BG?
Thanks very much for any help.
