I've got a Halifax credit card which I owe just over £6000 on, I've used it once in last 12 months
I took it out about 3 yrs ago as a 0% balance transfer to clear another card
last year I had a nasty divorce and at the moment I'm still living in the family home paying all mortgage and bills until it sells, I just let this card carry on paying by dd while dealing with other stuff, about 10 months ago I realised I was paying 22.9 APR on it and applied for another 0% card which was rejected due to my credit rating, I checked my credit rating and reason it was so bad was due to a joint bank acc I had with my ex, although I set up my own acc with same bank (A&L) ex had taken the joint acc to max overdraft limit, that was ok as neither of us used it again until they put on charges, the charges were due to a company trying to take a dd from the acc even though I had set it up to pay out of my new acc, this generated a fee which took joint acc over limit which caused charges, within couple of months the charges were more than £200!
I asked A&L to freeze acc and let me pay it off monthly but they refused, cue more charges 3 months later. Then I had a call from Santander saying did I want them to freeze the acc and pay it off at £40 a month which I have been doing, they also said that my credit rating would be adjusted over the next few months.
So I presume it's ok now but don't know which card to go for or wether to check my credit rating first, or if applying for one will affect my rating when I'll need to apply for a mortgage soon
Just checked card statement and I'm paying around £120 a month of which £100 is interest and I could really do with that extra money
I know my problems are nothing compared to others on here but if anyone can help I'd be really grateful
