Just joined this interesting site on a recommendation.

I have 6 credit cards with rather over £50,000 on them in total. Right now all are up to date but I don't know if I can keep this up. 2 cards are current and usable; 2 were taken out since April 2007; 1 was taken out in 2002 and 1 so far back I don't have a record.

I wonder of you can help with 2 questions which are not black and white factual:

    1. The 2 "old" agreements are with HBOS and Yorkshire Bank. I see from the boards that my chances should be quite good with HBOS but I have seen nothing about a Yorkshire Bank CC. Have you any idea what the prospects would be? I shouldn't like to fire off a CCA request, putting them and maybe others on the alert, only to find all was in apple pie order their end.

    2. If I were successful with those 2, that would then presumably show up in my credit report. What then would be the likelihood that the 2 functional cards would be converted to closed accounts?

OT - I expect in a few days to get a £2k mis-sold loan insurance refund and might even be able to contribute something here myself!

    Hi & Welcome

Basically to answer your point both YB & HBOS are as bad as each other. Sending a cca does not alert anyone; cessation of payments and subsequent default will.

That said, ue is not an option if you need to preserve your credit file - it'll get you defaults; lawfully in line with mcguffick v rbs.

Hope that helps but deffo send off for a cca on pre 04/2007 accounts. Nothing to lose plus you can check for any ppi etc....

Wow, that's a speedy response! Thank you.

I wonder if you can clarify one thing? I understand and accept that ceasing payments will wreck my credit file and mean little chance of getting new credit. But have you any thoughts about the existing 2 credit cards which are still in use? Any experience of this sort of situation? Are they likely to require me to cut the cards up?

Nope not unless you default with them. Yea they may lower limits based on data feeds from the cra's but not definitive.

It depends how you behave as a customer as well as sharing your data feeds.

Dont think I can say for definite, but I have gone this route, and my other creditors haven't (yet) closed any accounts.

On a side note, would it really matter if they did??

I echo Oscar here. I've got accounts that were active when I hit all my troubles and have been maintained meticulously. They have never changed anything on them in over 6 years, though they must know through their data feeds that I'm up sh1t street!

Re: HBOS, Yorkshire Bank CCs, and other

Well, have bitten the bullet and done CCA letters to HBOS and Yorkshire, to go recorded tomorrow.

I'm thinking of changing gas supplier so that's something to do urgently, as they say they will do credit checks.

Just for interest - the day I joined here I received £2,086.82 from Northern Rock as a PPI refund. Basically this was in response to a single letter which took about an hour including photocopying - 2 grand an hour is even better than a lawyer gets!

While writing - what is the reason for suggesting letters should be left unsigned? I'm sure it's covered somewhere but I have read this site until my head is swimming!

Re: HBOS, Yorkshire Bank CCs, and other

some of the DCAs have been known to do a wee cut and paste job on CCAs so no point in gifting them a nice clean up to date signature.

                    well done on the PPi

I believe I read somewhere that British Gas is the only one to do credit checks, but may be wrong, don't think it will be a problem as long as you are up to date with your present supplier.

Re: HBOS, Yorkshire Bank CCs, and other

I have today (10 Aug) heard from HBOS - their letter of 5 Aug in response to mine of 2 Aug. They say, "we are currently awaiting the documentation to fulfil your request and will endeavour to reply to you as soon as possible."

Unsurprisingly they have guessed what it's all about and given warnings about claims management companies.

Nah they always add that part - its not a personalised letter you received....

Wait and see what they come back with yea?

Re: HBOS, Yorkshire Bank CCs, and other

Update - I still have had no substantive response from HBOS, and no response at all from Yorkshire Bank, who haven't even cashed my cheque.

However the phone calls have started with a vengeance. I am making a log of these with a view to proceedings under the Protection from Harrassment Act 1997, which provides both for damages claims and criminal proceedings against the harrasser.

Every time they call they ask certain security questions, I say they called me and they should know and I'm not answering any such questions from a cold caller - and so it ends. In these circumstances there can be no purpose whatever to the continuing calls but harrassment. On one occasion one of them even said, well OK, but the phone calls will continue.

Once again thanks to this site. I still have a lot of problems and it may all end in tears, but the thought I might have a chance, by keeping payments to the accounts that have to be paid, has put new life in me.
