  • Oh now I get it, I've found you and need help please

Ok so I'm come over from MSE - no surprise there I hear you say! I wondered what people were referring too until some kind soul posted about this site - all I can say is yippee

So it's help I need. Of course just started (1st June) on a dmp with CCCS, I went through all the usual emotions of feeling embarrassed, shameful, terrified and now have reached the stage of **ck this, I'm up the creak without a paddle, I need proper advice now

So I'm in £35k of debt and according to CCCS it will take me 144 months to pay this off. Yes you heard right a life draining 144 months.

So my question is simple. How do I get this reduced? I don't know if my creditors have stopped the interest yet but to be honest who cares, I'm happy to play hard ball so any / all advice is very greatly appreciated. Let's face it my credit will be trashed for 6 years so why not have some fun while doing it

Look forward to hearing your thoughts / advice please?

    Many thanks

        Hi

So your debts are all reasonably new other than the £12k one? I'm not so sure going UE is the best option.

Easier if you name the lender/dca. Don't worry - see the diaries, we need basic info to see if ue is best suited. However a £12k debt is better than nothing.... )

Re: Oh now I get it, I've found you and need help please

Yes of course, don't mind saying who with.

The relatively new ones were done as balance transfers to go on to 0% deals.

The 12k cc is with Halifax, I've had this card for so long I couldn't really give a date as it was always the one I used and moved balances from this to 0% deals.

CC1 Barclaycard, CC2 Halifax, CC3 MBNA and Loan Halifax.

I was thinking UE would be good for the CC2, but knowing so little about it I would need an idiot's guide and spoon fed what to do

Thanks so much for your help.

Great, will read this and send letter.

I'm assuming I continue to pay via the DMP until such times as I hear back from them?

            Thank you very much.

              Hi 925pws
              Welcome aboard!

Yeah I'd carry on as normal until we know what we're dealing with.

Of the more recent cards and loans, don't suppose you've got Payment Protection Insurance on any of them have you, or any significant late payment charges?

Firstly, thanks everyone for such a warm welcome

No, don't have any PPI on them or late payment charges. But I did have a loan previously with Tesco with PPI so fingers crossed will get something from that.

As pointed out, 12k isn't to be sneezed at plus it would greatly reduce my 144 months torture

Will see how it goes but in any case will move to a self managed dmp soon. Just starting out was petrified but have moved past that now.

                  Hiya

If your DMP is new then I would quit now, let the accounts all fall into default (this way no matter what in 6years your credit file will be clean) - send a CCA for all accounts (even the post 04/07 accounts) and let's see what we can do.

I would honestly look at cancelling the new DMP as it's a waste of money, we have the tools and templates here to reduce interest etc plus we have a damned good DMP guru here who helps with DMP's for users (free as he is a charity - fully licenced etc).

We have things most other forums couldn't dream up.

If phone calls etc become a pain, bear with us as within the month we'll be bringing out an automated phone system for users to use to take away calls from their home and mobile numbers

However we'll keep an eye on you, don't worry - but deffo stop all payments so that you get defaulted sooner than later.

                  Questions, fire away.....

Re: Oh now I get it, I've found you and need help please

Ok was hyper-ventilating there but back to normal

So, I am right in thinking that sooner or later I will be defaulted and it's 6 years till it falls off from default date so the sooner the default is recorded the quicker it'll fall off? Makes sense I guess.

Say for example the recent CCAs are enforceable - what happens then? Do I want to force them to sell to DCA and reach a F&F settlement?

I've read a number of diaries so think I know the score (more or less) on what to expect of the merry-go-round of letters regarding unenforceable debts.

If I'm stopping the current DMP, do I write to my creditors? If so, saying what? Should I send a token payment?

This forum is so different to the other, much more helpful

Exactly - why let it drag on 2 years to then get defaulted? May as well it get it over and done with sooner.

You ideally play the game and blag it hoping they sell between DCA's and then we'll look at making offers, usually I go for 10-15% so for every £1000 it'd be like £100-£150 repayment. Recently I did get a £25k down to £5k but that was a fluke

Exactly, well done. I love it when people do their homework.

nope, just cancel the DMP - no need to speak to any creditors. Send a CCA that's it. But it's the DMP you must cancel first. Reason ,tell them you're looking into unenforceability and they'll then agree cos they cannot help you if you're fighting UE.

                            925PWS,

Just popped in to say well done and that you are now in good hands with Niddy and the other Mods what you are being told is the quickest route and it does come with good results thus far.

Niddy has put a lot of research into UE and has all corners covered like I say well done

                            Regards

Thank you, I can't thank you all enough for the support.

I was a member of the other forum many, many years ago under a different user name and at that time there was discussion about UE but joining again recently, no-one mentioned it. It was only when Hopelessly Hopeful posted that I was able to track this forum down. At the start of this journey it was terrifying, funnily enough that feeling has passed and now I'm in a whole different ballpark with the mood I'm in

As I'm at the start of this journey I will certainly need all the help and advice on offer but I'll get through it as many of you have.

A member of my family is seriously ill so I am in no mood to take any sh!t from creditors.

As someone in another post said - it's only money
