  • Egg/Barclaycard Payments

We received letters a while back informing us of new bank details for our old Egg now Barclaycard accounts (both ) only I've just gone to set up the new SO for token payments and realised we don't have the full reference number. On these letters the card number is in the format **************1234 and we've never received anything as yet with the full ref nos on.

Am I ok to ring them to ask for these or are they likely to give me a load of verbal as they've had nothing but token payments for a year? If this is likely, I'll have to write and ask for the references, just means that both accounts may incur late payment charges (I'm also concerned that my contact may stir up this nicely quiet hornets nest

All of the previous paperwork we've got had come from Egg but the last 4 digits on the letters from Barclaycard are different to the Egg numbers, I'd guess they change the account numbers when they took them over?

what about the notice of assignment?

if not then you need to phone to get the correct paying details

you need to be calm and assertive, not entertain any carry on about increasing the payment, just ask for the details, if they are persistant, just ask if they are refusing to give you paying in details and do they realise that is against OFT guidelines and also the lending code. In fact don't argue, if the ist eejit won't play ball just demand to be put through to the floor manager (there always is one) and ask your question there. Remember not to confirm any phone numbers to them. Personally I might be tempted to use the previous account number from egg that you have been paying and just use their new paying in details, not your fault they want to continually mess around with account numbers.

PS tell em you're recording the call because of past abusive phone calls

Assertive is one thing I'm defIntely not! Maybe I'll get my OH to ring for his account number first

I didnt think of using our existing Egg account nos. could try that first and see if the payment gets returned.

Same thing happend with my mother, she got a letter from BC saying they had taken over Egg accounts and to change the direct debit details, the only account number they listed was XXXX XXXX XXXX 0004.

We canceled the egg direct debit, and didnt set up another, after a few more letters they eventually passed the debt on to Allied international credit, who then listed the full account number as the reference.

But it did not match the original egg account number and never ever received a letter notifying us that the account number had changed.

I have since sent a CCA Request, AIC have around 7 more days to comply.

Can i ask, you say its enforceable, has niddy already seen your agreement?

Yeah Niddy took a look at them both a few months back and unfortunately both are EN (which is the only reason for still making payments. Ideally I'd like the debt sold on a couple of times so as we can make low F&F offer.

Perhaps I should wait until they contact me with an account number rather than approaching them? I just don't want them forcing issues such as litigation as the balances are much to high for us to settle at present.

Well, you do what you feel is best and comfortable with, i can only give you my expierence with them.

We ignored their letter to change details, after 1 month they sold it on to a DCA, AIC kept ringing for about 4 weeks before actually writing to us.

I took the view, that i did not know the account number so would not act until i received communication with the full account number on it.

Even if they started litigation, you can offer a payment before it gets to court, and even if you got to court, its likely the judge would make you pay only what you could afford, so dont worry to much about this part, it sounds more scary than it actually is.

See what happens, they have to get in touch before taking action (LBA - letter before action) so you're fine for now, see what happens..... if they don't write, fine - leave em to it.

Thanks all for that, it's much appreciated

Taking into account that selling the accounts on would probably be in our best interests, I think I'll hold off contacting them (and therefore make no payments for now) and see what they do next.
