If you want to find out all your debts so can get some help and have no idea who you owe money too or for how long do you need to check credit report on three main sites and will this alert creditors to where you live and is there another way of doing it so they don't find out where you live?

    Re: debts

Personally I wouldn't bother checking your credit reports...it does alert the creditors.

Do you have any creditors/dcas (debt collection agencies) writing to you? What's the reason for you wanting to know?

      Dawn

Is this in relation to your other thread about your ex-partner, or is it in relation to your own debts? I'm sure we can help with both.

        Re: debts

Hi its not for me. I thought that been as everyone was such a great help before I would ask on behalf of my sister ( I must sound a right idiot). She doesn't have any letters etc as she is living at a friends house but has been running away for her debt which go back 5 years or so , I know some are payday loans, she thinks one is council but apart from that she knows she owes a lot of money but cannot remember who she owes it to. Anyway she wants to move in with her partner but before does this she needs to know who she owes money to so she can get some help as obviously doesn't want anyone knowing where she lives until she can get the help, she's not working either at the moment so her choices are limited but i have told her that I am sure to find all that out the only way is to check credit report.

How long as she been "running away" from her debts...ie when was the last time she paid anything?

The only one that I can see that might be a problem would be the council one.

Last time anything was paid was about 5 years ago but some of the payday loans were taken out last year. She is aware that credit record is a wreck but won't be able to get any help with iva or bankruptcy etc if she can't say who owes money to also if she doesn't do anything that here life will be made hell by people and letters at home from collection agencys, creditors etc and that's not really fair on partner as once bills, bank statements and car information goes there then they will find where she lives. Sorry being a pain and may seem odd me helping others first but if I know how to help then I like to.

It's not odd at all you helping others.

If she last paid some of them 5 years ago then they're very close to being statute barred...it seems daft to me to risk them now coming after her.

Have a read of some of the diaries on here...especially those that were started some time ago. The flurry of phone calls and letters (it isn't often that someone actually calls at your home despite their threats) don't really last long, especially when you stop being frightened of them and start fighting back.

If I was your friend I think I'd take things as they come along but, of course, it's her choice.

                  Re: debts

She's worried because she did move in with friend last year and as soon as had bills etc sent to house a letter arrived from debt collection agency about a debt she owed from about 3 1/2 yrs ago so she knows that even if doesn't look at credit file they can still find her.
Also what about the payday loans that she took out last year and never paid back how can she get help with those? also even though it will only be her partners name on tenancy he can't prove that stuff is house is his and not hers should baliffs come round.

Sorry have also just been informed that she has a pile of letters from various debt collection agencys for payments, further action etc but she is not sure what the debts are as they don't say just has the name of collection agency on it and some are recent debts , some may be years

SaltnVinegar is our payday loan expert. Have a look...or get your friend to have a look...at some of the threads in that section. I've never had a payday loan and I know nothing about them.
