Why do I always get caught up in these messes...
A few weeks ago I got a call from some company, saying that I was due compensation for an accident I had last year. Unfortunately, I fell for their 'we're connected to the government' line and answered their questions.
I should say that the accident was as minor as it gets - a motorbike ran into the back of me at a very low speed (it was on a speed ramp outside a school). There was a 2mm dent in my exhaust, and no injury.
This company said that I just need to give them the reg number of the other vehicle and they'll send me a cheque for 3.4k.
After the call, I googled them, and realised they're a claims chasing company.
When they called back, I told them to get stuffed.
But they keep ringing me.
I don't believe for one second there's a big cheque waiting for me. I hate using the phone and I'm not going to take a load of meds to calm me down to be able to ring my insurers for the other guys reg, for lots of reasons. a) he seemed a nice guy, and I don't want to set this company on him. b)if there were money waiting for me, I'm sure my insurers would have told me - I'm in the same address with the same insurers (different car though). c) I don't want to add to the 'thousands of compo for a stubbed toe (although a stubbed toe is far more traumatic than the accident was!!)' culture.
This company can't even keep to the same name! One day it's 'UK claims management direct' the next it's 'UK compensation department'.
Can anyone pleeeeease tell me how to get them off my back? They're almost as tenacious as debt collectors! Saying 'I'm not interested' doesn't work, if I hang up they ring straight back.
