  • Payday lender harassment/ threat to contact employer

Now I normally just ignore these guys but they are texting and emailing me with a statement:
"We will also contact your employer on the next working day from the date of this email. "

I don't actually think they will, but have kept the emails, and taken a screenshot of texts to prove it at a later date if needed.

Can anyone advise some wording to send back to them in response to this? Or should I keep ignoring it, assuming they won't contact my employer? Clearly I don't want them to and agree it's a ploy to get me to contact them, but at the same time, a little bit worried in case they do it. This is a new one one me to be honest, thought I'd seen it all by now!

    Thanks!

    Hi Pebbles

Unfortunately this is not a new one, and I have seen it before, and I have seen one specific lender even divulging information to a debtors manager.

However, on the basis of that conduct I also got the debt written off as the fine for FOS investigation (which they would have lost) would have been more than the debt.

Who is the payday loan company concerned? Can you give a bit of history to the account please?

    Best

To be honest I'd be really embarassed if they did it but I'd get over it and report it to the FOS just like you've said and hope for the same outcome

I've had a couple of texts and emails later today that don't mention speaking with work, just generic asking me to get in touch to arrange a payment plan. So I think I will ignore. I just panicked at the new scary wording (how silly of me, I should know the tactics by now!).

They are bonga; original amount £300, repaid countless times and renewed, then 2 weeks ago reassessed my situation and didn't pay (can't afford to keep going round in circles) so I didn't pay, cancelled card etc. - now £540 !!!

Plan is to wait it out as long as possible (and save), then settle at £300 or lower with a DCA eventually.

      Thanks SnV

Write / email in and say

"i've been sacked, I have no assets and live in a car so I will get back to you when I can. I have no internet or wifi in my car, as it's an old banger. Threaten me all you like, you cannot get blood from a stone and you are free to come and relieve me of my banger cos then I might get myself a council house"

Seriously, try that approach - they certainly stop hassling you as much

This approach works.... but you MUST close the Bank Account you set up the payment from. basic Accounts are very easy to open ( esp Co-op, Halifax and Nationwide ). Out of 6, three still send me eMails, breaking all the OFT Guidelines and Motormouth Finance is trying to bully me after buying one of the lemons.....fat chance. I sent them greetings from '2000 miles from you door, so please confirm that you will be bearing your own expenses for your doorstep visit'.

The OFT have just given them 12 weeks to clean up their act as they are breaking all the Rules.....now is the time to fck them off with a threat of Complaint to the OFT. Without the means of collecting the cash, they can't do anything but shout and stamp their feet.
