I think he's on his way to being finished. For too long he has been an International King maker, helping to elect any dodgy wannabee Politico that will pay homage.

While trying to keep an open mind on this Hacking Saga. I keep wondering why no one has mentioned that listening to voice mail has been used by Various Security Services ever since the mobile phone was invented. As to pay offs to Police, I used to know several who if asked could get me the rundown on any Registration number or Individual for the price of a pint. Likewise I had a contact at BT who could provide me with the Name and Address of the account holder of any Ex Directory number.

The point I am trying to make is there are more than the Newspapers doing this sort of thing and for many more reasons than sensationalism.

It seems that we are still only being fed snippets of the real story. What the end game is and who is pulling the strings we may never know.

If I were him I would check my driver, wear my seat belt at all times and keep away from Papparatzi with zenon flash guns.

I have a motorhome and have the ability to "hack" into anybody's broadband should I so wish. I don't use it, but I could. I wonder how many do. Similarly you google how to hack a computer and you'll be amazed at the sites that are out there full of information on how to go about breaking the law.

In this day and age, surely there must be some way of finding these sites and taking them down. I suppose the argument is that it is not illegal to know how to do something illegal, it's just illegal to actually do it.

Well put Caspar. I have always loved my Technology, but the more advanced and easier it becomes to use, the more afraid I become for peoples liberty.

It's been known believed for years that every telephone conversation in the UK is routed through an American installation near Harrogate, Computers in an installation in Virginia then sift the data for key words. Yes it has caught lots of Bad Guys, but Criminals have been ignored. Some info is allegedly filtered back to Organisations like Customs and Revenue. I read once where the Thatcher Government were becoming concerned that the system wasn't being used for Intelligence but to give Large US Corporations commercial advantage over the UK.

Re your comment, it takes me back to my Radio Ham days. It's not illegal to listen in on Police frequency's but it is against the Law to act on any information received.

I'm not paranoid about things like Phone Hacking, just highly sceptical about some aspects of British politics.

Example Gordon Brown and the Radio Mike incident. A lot of hard line Labor wanted him out. He had never met the old trout before he was filmed with her. Someone in the Local Constituency must have chosen her and known what she was like. ( I don't believe it just happened, these things are highly stage managed). Finally any sound man who would let 2 of his Radio Mikes go walk about would get screwed for the loss. Besides they do have a limited range, so how come he was driving away in his car and still being recorded?

If anyone thinks I am into conspiracy theories your right. If anyone sees holes in my argument, I am open to debate and being corrected.

These days I just want to be left alone to look after me and mine, but I'm afraid Big Brother is here and has been for a while and probably wears an Old Etonian tie.

No, the arguments against that are that freedom of speech should not be rationed and the censorship = damage to the network.

One should also consider that, just as one needs to know how a lock may be picked if one is to design a better and "pick-proof" lock, so one needs to know how improper or illegal access may be gained to a computer network if one is to devise better security measures.

Well said. I have always said if a man can invent it, then a man can fiddle break it.

Back in the mid 80's I worked for a while on Trivia machines and One Armed Bandits. Every time a new security measure was intoduced a new way of fiddleing would appear in a very short time. We were always one step behind.

As the technology improved more inventive ways of robbing the machines were developed. The people working out the scams were all industry proffesionals. I employed one young post grad engineer, who I caught reprograming the memory boards. It was as simple as putting a full stop after each correct answer, then telling a mate which machines were in what pub.

It always seems to be an inside job when security is breached.
Maybe we put too much trust in technology.

Life seemed safer when your details were on paper stored in a filing cabinet and you were paid in cash each week.

As to freedom of speech, yes it should be free. Have you noticed though how some folks turn their nose up a things that are free.
Maybe when folks realise how threatened it is they will start to appreciate it more.

Hi all, Well not a good day for Handy (where have you heard that before). No I have just felt carp all day. It was after 9 before I woke up this morning, I never sleep in, Lady Hooray wasn't pleased I was late for work. Even though I only have to step outside and I'm there.

Basically sod her, that's how I feel at the moment.

I worked late on my car on Thursday, It took a sledge hammer to get the rear wheels off the brake drums.

My Plums are ripening nicely now, The ones on the plum tree. No I've not got another hernia. Just that I was scared this thread was getting too highbrow with all this political talk, so I thought it was time I lowered the tone to its normal level

Heres hoping I feel brighter tomorrow.

I bought this Photo today, I hope the photographer doesn't mind me using a download, I have given him due credit for his fantastic work. I have taken many similar, but not as good as this one. This is Hooray Valley down here in Scrumpy Land.

You can't see us as Hooray Hall is directly at the back of this Hill.

The reverse of the hill is just as good and this is what I look out onto while I'm at work each day. One of the reasons why I put up with things.

The sad fact is Virtually all the Land you see in the picture is Fod - Scrotum Land

They are nice images, bit late now but tomorrow ill post up some photos I took of the portugal coast they are quiet strange as it was a nice sunny day with a carm sea however just walking through the cliff 100 yrds away it was totally differant.

Well thanks If. Mrs Handy's leg is still in pot and will be for another 3 weeks. She has decided it will finally be a good thing if she goes in for the total knee replacement she put off last year. That's if they will still do it now because of the Oesteoporosis (I understand it even if I cant spell it ).

Your going to think I'm making this up, but she had a Hip replacement @ 15 years ago. Still going strong if a little creaky these days. I call her the Bionic Woman. (Don't know if you remember the old 70's series).

I keep telling her I will book her in at hte local Garage for an Oil change and an MOT. Its cheaper than Botox

(Ouch her aim with a Frying Pan is still as sharp as ever ).

I'm pleased you like my pictures. I did those about this time last year when I was learning to use Photoshop Elements. Shame I didn't keep working files. One day when I have more time I would really like to get proficient with Photoshop.
