As for MSE - shame on you, shame indeed. You gotta love the quote at the bottom - so are they actually protecting the user yes or no? Seems no to me.....

We do not record any details of our users, we do not know your email nor do we know your IP

Don't worry, we will never do this - we do believe in free speech and will stop libellous and defamatory posts from occurring anyway, however as a learning curve it may be best practice to keep opinions out of things, and stick with facts as it does appear that the legals now think they can sue forum users - in fact the whole world's gone bloody mad! What next? Will they try and sue eBayers for leaving negative feedback? Its the world gone absolutely bonkers!

Shame on MSE - absolutely shocked that Mr Money Saver himself sold out so easily!

      Is it really that shocking?

Holy smoke. Will you and the mods visit me in prison and smuggle in essential supplies if this lunacy goes that far? I like Hob Nobs by the way. If I can slag off my ex-husband in public why can't I slag off my creditors on a website? Has the cyber world gone mad? Could Paul maybe clarify exactly which juristriction we're legally bound by? Is there a White Book in cybersphere perhaps

        * I've deleted the rest of my post because on reflection it seems a bit silly to rubbish a libel lawyer in print ! What was I thinking.

        Yours,

              Re: MSE Doing a CAG?

You do all realize that Mr MSE did have the option to refuse to reveal his posters' details Okay that would have placed him in contempt of court and he would have been sent to prison until he did, but where's the problem in that ? He was only 'ordered' by a Judge to grass up his followers, but he could have said "No piss off". In my profession we would rather die than reveal our sources, it's a journalist's unwritten code of conduct and I'm dead proud of it. Pity Mr MSE isn't so principled We all know we can rely on Niddy to go to prison to proctect our privacy

P.S. Message to Mods: I've edited my previous post #4 for obvious reasons, I hope that's ok with you. The expression 'pot calling kettle black' springs to mind

Well if it ever come to it where anyone on here has to go to the nick to protect any posters identity Handy does a very good fruit cake (Files Optional).

I think we are all aware of the basic rules of Slander and Libel. Even the Government cant enforce a "D Notice" properly these days because of the Internet, so how come these Shysters can get a High Court Judge to order a UK based Forum to hand over individuals details. Methinks there is more to this than meets the eye.

BTW, I am starting a new tunnel tomorrow (Just in Case )

                Regards all, Handy

                  Re: MSE Doing a CAG?

TBH I think some of the posters on there should be sued.

Not for slagging off dodgy companies though...but for the way they molest new people going on for help with debt.
I don't go on very often, but when I do it feels like a rescue mission. Not to be attempted without anti flak jacket and first aid kit for bruised debtors.

                  Oops was that defamatory?..sorreeee!!!

Spot on actually - as you know, and have pointed out, they are trying to achieve the impossible by calling themselves MONEY saving as that in itself will invariably bring debtors to their site, so if Martin never wanted debtors there, maybe he shouldn't have been so big headed to assume the role of money expert (which lets not forget, there are thousands, in fact millions of experts out there that were experts long before him) - however we have to live with the fact that Martin thinks he can trademark the name/brand whatever but that's only until a real expert comes along and actually takes real ownership.

So, with a leader like that, with an ego larger than a stack of double deckers lined up in a Leyland garage; what do you expect? Of course newbies get bullied, all debtors get harassed, abused and totally disrespected when they go to that god forsaken site. It is ok if you do just want to get advice from other posters (most of Martins stuff is readily available on webby if you do your own homework) but the moment you mention debt, you get the wankers come out of the shadows declaring "you borrowed it, repay it" - I so want to blow up the site when I see those posts, but hey Mr Money does encourage it by never banning the users.

How long you think our mods would leave a poster here, slagging off a debtor? I give it 5 mins - max!

                    Niddy rant about MSE over

                      Re: MSE Doing a CAG?

If Mr MSE claims to be a Money Saving Expert but doesn't actually save me any money, could the Trade Descriptions Act 1968 come into play here? Ditto the "Expert" claim. His local Trading Standards Officer should be told

Is Martin Lewis actually running that site, or has it been handed over to minions who keep him there as their pet?

How many - if any - of MSE belong to the NUJ?

That's interesting because he seems to have been distancing himself from the brand lately. I noticed when he was on the news the other week he was introduced as 'Martin Lewis from the Money Saving Expert website' rather than 'The money saving expert Martin Lewis' as he always used to be. IIRC it's something to do with the company becoming limited, or whatever the legal change was.

Interestingly if my memory serves it was a few months ago - at about the time of the events in the article.

As for the forums, I still go on DT for the debate, and sometimes glance at some of the others. There's been a recent spate of PPR'ing, but not of people who slag off companies. There's definitely been a huge change in attitude lately though, posters just aren't nice anymore, anywhere. Especially towards people in debt, who seem to be blamed for all the economic ills. Or at least the ones that aren't the fault of people on benefits! There doesn't seem to be much help anymore, in any area, just condemnation.

Thing is I used to live there, they then allowed a user to join (get this without laughing too much) with the same name as me, but using different "case"!

I was never-in-doubt but they allowed an imposter to join called Never-in-Doubt and he was pming people called them spastics and darkies etc - it took MSE 4 days to ban him, 4 bloody days mate. My reputation went to bits, and MSE said it was fine as they'd removed the offensive poster - yea right, thanks for the support MSE!

I along with 100 others walked out of MSE that day, never to return......
