  • Default advice please

in Dec 2008 i had a vodafone pay monthly mobile, was young and foolish i didnt pay it, i then recieved letters from a debt compay thretening to reposes goods at my moms address which i lived, so i paid them the bill in full £519 i then recieved a letter that i had settled the bill in full and have not herd from them since.
Ive attempted last month to get myself a new pay monthley phone and got refused buy all companys, so i took a look at my credit report signed up to noodle and the free trial with experian and seen there was a default from vodafone date 07/12/2008 and it says i still owe £83. i cannot find the letter to say i payed in full, its now 5 years old should i pay the 83 and ask vodafone to remove the default or ust wait the 12 months for it to drop off.
I want to start to rebuild my credit score so ive got a sim only deal and been looking into a prepaid card with a credit builder option, should i start that now or wait till the default has gone. thanks for your help guys

    Re: Default advice please

I would just wait, it's not a huge amount of money and even if you paid they wouldn't remove the default. It's a realistic experience of how the account was conducted, so no reason for them to. It will fall off in a year and then it will be clear.

        Hi Matt,
Have you got credit that is revolving elsewhere? i.e a loan, credit card etc? If so, and this is being paid on time - that will be good.
I think the easiest card to get (if you want to rebuild your rating) is the Granite.
I got one with defaults that were only two years old and used it for stuff which i knew i could pay off when i got my wages. After a while (and lots of paid on time markers) i got a Flybe card from Creation bank and ditched Granite. Onwards and upwards and all that

All the best, let us know how you get on.

I am now saving the money each month that was making little difference to the balance and not a bit of difference to my credit file as a result of finding AAD.

This is bollocks. Sod waiting. The Creditor (vodafone) are unlawfully reporting info to the CRA. If he agreed to settle then it's settled. End of.

More details will allow me to help get this resolved - it's really up to you if you wait and ignore it or fight it. The 5yr default has no adverse effect so don't worry about that.
