Agree with you mate, but can you just clarify Carol please? What did the letter say actually say about Lowells? They are better known as debt purchasers and the letter should be clear that the debt HAS BEEN assigned to Lowells. I would wait and see what they come up with but it may make a little difference later as to how things are worded with them.

    regards

hiya the letter from argos says
your account with argos - home retail group with a balance due for payment of 2016.57 was sold to lowell portfolio ltd by us on the 3/11/2011 and this letter is give you notice of the asssignment of the debt.
we have not been made aware of any reasons why this debt should not be paid and as lowell portfolio are now the legal owners of the debt any payments you make should be made to them and not us or any of our previous appointed agents.
if you have a query, want to discuss the debt or repay what you are contractually obliged to please call number below. any further communication and payments must be addressed to lowell portfolio.

i also have a letter attached to this from lowell intoducing themselves and how i need to pay and if the do not hear from me they will instruct their recovery specialists to contact me about paying
      and thats it thanks carol01

          Hi carol,

I2D is riight. That is a letter giving you proper Notice of Assignment. That ensures that we know who "owns" the alleged debt. They have therefore purchased all the duties and obligations of as well, not just the profit (LOL) making bit.

However as we said its better to sit and wait to see where they go next.

          regards

                      hi all
i have recieved a letter from red ref my argos store card it says..
lowell financial ltd has passed your account to us so we can collect the money you owe on their behalf.you must pay us now £2016.57.
we are speacialists in assessing accounts for litigation. so we will be obtaining a copy of your credit file in order to review your financial circumstances and information within it will help us determine the best way to recover what you owe.
if we are sucessful in obtaining a ccj and you still do not reply, depending on the amount you owe and your circumstances,we could then apply to secure the debt against your property,or deduct amounts directly from your earnings.we may ask a court bailiff to remove goods from your house to the value of the debt.
alternatively, instead of applying for a ccj we could (if your account meets certain criteria) serve a statutory demand upon you and where you do not then repay petition for your bankruptcy. if you were to be made banckrupt you could lose rights or benefits in relation to the property you own.
                      yours....
                      quick recap

great news! you may not have to pay council tax or water rates.
you still have an outstanding debt to lowell portfolio ltd which you need to start paying before you possibly leave us with no other option but to use the county court to recover the balance. during the months of february and march there is no council tax or water rates to pay as these are billed from april to january and therefore the average person is better off by £150.00. therefore this is perfect time for you to get your lowell account in order.
