  • A year already

Well it is a year today i joined this forum, i was relly fearful of going down the UE route as i and my husband were realy intimidated by creditors.

We know different now of course, with the support from everyone here we know it is the best thing we ever did, we have more money in our pockets and can now afford to live again.

For those of you just starting the UE route i want to encourage you that you will be fine and the dca will not hack your legs off : they are mostly full of idol threats and if you follow the help here you will be OK

This is our journey so far

We had 23 creditors when we first started realising our debt was out of control we started a debt management plan and was paying £400 a month , after a few months we found that too much of a struggle and changed the company to payplan, they lowered our payment to £226 per month which we thought was great and we did start enjoying life once again, but then that changed when our business started to struggle and we told them to lower the payments , they lowered them to £150 a month again we were happy with that , but then the business struggled even more and we lowered the payment again to £76 per month but still found we were struggling and we were thinking of going bankrupt , i then found this forum and this is when we decided to stop payments to our creditors and send out CCA requests , it was like i said really scary as we were worried we would get creditors putting charges on our home ,
Hubby has been to court twice to get a re-determination on a credit card debt which is in the from of a charge on our home which a dca got at the start the debt management plan and we did not know how to defend ourselves it would not have happened if we had found this place first , at one point i was thinking of letting the house go because the District Judge never seemed to be interested, but that changed in May when hubby returned and the payment was set at £5 per month instead of the original £28 , it was a very stressful time for us both , but with the encouragement from planB and others it came out good .

But going back to the beginning we were nervous but as the CCA's came back they were found to be UE and we started to really relax , the year has flown by and with the help here it has been easy and we couldn't have done it without your help , so we would just like to say a BIG THANK YOU you are all

So here's to the start of year 2 and another year closer to our debts becoming STATUTE BARRED

I can remember just how fearful and scared you were when you first joined. What a difference a year makes!

You'll find that the years fly past more quickly now and the letters will get less and less to the point of not receiving any for a year/18 months.

Happy anniversary...it's my 3rd anniversary of sending cca requests on 8th July...halfway to SB

I agree with pixie, 18 months or so in to it now, and the letters are almost dead, have literally 1 or 2 DCA's writing and at least 3 to 4 weeks apart.

            Well done S2M!

I missed posting about my 3 year anniversary since starting UE (started it over on MSE with Niddy before this forum got up and running).

And I am pleased to report (not wishing to tempt fate so touch wood 'n' all that) that I haven't heard anything from any UE creditor in nearly 15 months

In fact, I had trouble finding my diary as it's dropped to page 11

I can only find my diary because Niddy links to it in the UE diary sticky

They say time fly's when you are having fun......Well I guess in some way we all kind of enjoy it

Although we would all rather be without it ( Most of us anyway )

S2M - Its true when people say what a difference a year makes - I remember those early feelings well

Your doing so well with this - Its good to see

They get fewer when they realise you're not going to be a pushover

When Gold isn't enough, there is SA Gold! New to the forum and find the UE route a bit scary? Take a look at my diary here and judge for yourself. I am now saving the money each month that was making little difference to the balance and not a bit of difference to my credit file as a result of finding AAD.

It's completely untrue of course, all I did was bring out your inner warrior. We all have one, but sometimes we forget this when the going gets tough. I'm sure you'll manage just fine without me from now on

Just realised it was four years on 9 July that we started our EU journey , only 2 years to go until the debts become statute barred, the time has passed so quickly .

Thanks all for the help as always
