Hi folks,
After reading a number of success stories on here and elseswhere, I have plucked up the courage to contact Egg and attempt to reclaim PPI on the grounds of mis-selling. Here is my story so far:
I took out the Egg card back in 1999 over the internet, unknowingly agreeing to PPI. It was only a few years back that I heard about PPI that I discovered that I was paying this under the guise of Card Protector! I learned that this was not compulsory and cancelled forthwith. Shortly afterwards (June 2011) I requested my agreement and evidence of how I signed up to PPI, egg sent my CCA and some screenshots of their software system that just stated - "Accident, Sickness, Unemployment" and the accompanying letter stated:
I gave up at this stage as there were other things going on in my life.
My wife was successful in reclaiming PPI from Northern Rock, so I decided to look into my Egg Claim again and came across a thread on here. This encouraged me to pick up where I left off and I sent a letter to Egg Jan 15th indicating that I have learned that the PPI box was pre-ticked for Internet Applications for Egg Cards back around the time that I applied.
I have just received a reply from Barclaycard (since they have bought egg) that states that they are looking into this for me and will respond in March 2012. They also asked me to fill in a FOS questionnaire - which is a bit of a problem as the form asks for some details that I dont have, such as When i cancelled the PPI, and had I missed any payments. I have now sent a SAR to Egg to request details of all transactions for my account history, and I'm hoping that this will go back to 1999 and also detail any missed payments and the date that I cancelled the PPI. However I'm not sure if this info will come back in time. I'm kicking myself for not doing the SAR first! I do feel like I have a good case, as I have never taken PPI out on any cards, and would certainly not knowingly accepted this if it was clearly shown in the application process.
I hope I am doing the right thing. Is there anything else I could or should be doing?
TIA
