  • PC ISSUE

    Guys,

Just got a PC issue which happened a short while ago, had a security centre message saying that the security centre service is turned off so I went into security centre to turn on but on clicking the button and message comes up saying service can not be srarted.

With that the MSE icon disappears from task bar so I go into menu to start it from there but nothing happens.

So I then go to microsoft security website to download the safety scanner this is now running but my question is why would it shut down like that and more to the point how do I get it running again.

    Regards

        Re: PC ISSUE

Reboot the bloody PC FFS man!

It could be a startup fault i.e. registry, ini, all sorts of reasons so just reboot and then see if it sorts itself out - never ever play with settings when a firewall etc stops working, always always reboot first before doing anything!

If you had been hacked, ie got a virus, they sometimes trick you into closing your own monitoring so they take over thus in essence you're closing the real one down so to stop it and check, always reboot then see what happens.....

That comes up as a blank site on my PC. May be my security blocking it.

Is everything backed up, if so, why not restore factory defaults?

              Re: PC ISSUE

Its a browser Hijacker that will be logged (probably) into the registry.

First try looking at the homepage in the Internet Exporer options (assuming you are using IE) may be a simple case of deleting it from here, and replacing your home page address

Hope this sorts out Pompey, sorry I don't know anything about all this techie stuff, I normally leave that to my oldest when he's here.

Thank goodness for Safe Mode, but everything is larger and no sound if I remember correctly.

                  Good luck.

Works out a bit dearer, but we have to cover 3 PC's, and this is the one we stick to every year.
