  • CKD/Neph App

My first Neph appointment came through yesterday, and its on Monday 22 July at 1:50pm, take a list of medications taking and sample of urine. (At my local hospital Royal Gwent), they use the Urology dept as a satelite clinic, as the Neph's are mainly based at Cardiff University Hospital of Wales.

The neph I shall be seeing is Professor J Williams, he is also a Medic for the Wales Rugby Team.

          Re: CKD/Neph App

Blood results back today, unfortunately kidney function dropped another 3 points in less than 2 months, so 45GFR at the moment, and Creatinine shot up to 115.
The higher the CR the lower the GFR, we need to work on lowering the CR for a better GFR level.
This still keeps me on the stage 3 CKD though, so it still classed as stable at the moment....

However, all other labs results within normal range, so that is something, now left for the neph to deal with next week now, please wish me luck folks. Thank you x

                Re: CKD/Neph App

Had my first neph appointment today, they done the usual, bloods, urine, weight etc, my bp shot up due to my nerves and whitecoat to 176/103, but they done it again when calmer and it shot down a little lol.

However, despite no protein in my water, they did find blood in my water, so he is organising scans to check for any kidney stones, cysts, or blockages etc. I never realised blood in water could be a sign of stones to be honest.

I am then to go back to the neph in 3 months from now, but unless any issues arises from these recent tests/results.

                      Re: CKD/Neph App

                      Thank you IF ;-)

My ultrasound scan went pretty well yesterday, I never realised I would have to be breathing in and holding my breath though as part of the procedure lol.

I was told at the end that she couldnt find anything, she did also say the results should be with my specialist (neph) in a weeks time if I wanted to contact him, but I'm sure he will contact me if anything and with her telling me to ease my mind that she couldnt find anything then I'm sure that is fine.

So with that ruled out I expect it will all go down to the long term high blood pressure on why I have chronic kidney disease.
I shall see my neph in Oct now which is my next appointment he gave me, unless of course he comes to other arrangments he will contact me before then.

Am relieved to have been told the scan was fine though ;-)

                          Re: CKD/Neph App

Bloods taken today for kidney function (panel) and hormone tests. Results next week and then my 2nd appointment with my nephrologist next Thursday 24th Oct.
Am nervous. Had a further protein (urine) test and it still show it at 4.4, so shall see what the neph says next week.

My only fear is a biopsy, this is because from what I am aware of, a kidney biopsy comes with many risks :-/ And you also have to lie back for a good few hours on your back before they let you home, and no lifting for a little time. (now thats not going to be easy)...

                            Re: CKD/Neph App

Blood results came through yesterday (family GP), she went through the results with me over the phone but they are also doing a print out for me to collect later or the morning.

My kidney function dropped by just 2 points in just over 3 months so not bad going really, it came in at 43GFR and Creatinine @ 117, so still stable in stage 3.
My other kidney related blood labs in normal range, so thats great news.

Just have the urine high protein and trace of blood in water to work on now with the neph at my hos appointment this Thursday, fingers crossed.
