  • NatWest admits signature forgery

Suspicions were raised when a customer discovered he had 'agreed' to terms and conditions on a loan when he insists he hadn't.

How would you feel if you discovered your high street bank had forged your signature on a document? It sounds fanciful, or even in the realms of conspiracy theory, but this is the situation Phil Morley has found himself in – and it's not just him claiming he's been the victim of foul play. NatWest has admitted, in writing, that its own handwriting specialist "has confirmed they believe Mr Morley's signature was forged".

It's been posted publicly in various places before.

If I find myself in dispute with NatWest I shall enclose a copy of that letter and the Guardian article as an example of why I believe they could have done the same to me Thank you both for the ammunition.

I presume the "apology" was forced on them by the FOS since the bank isn't known for willingly shooting itself in the foot when there could be potential court proceedings against it. Isn't forgery a criminal offence?

Bet the employee only got done for something like incentive fraud or some other rubbish.

Cant say I am suprised by Natwest. I remember my current account (student) I got into some problems, wasnt really using the account (and was £500 OD) - they "pushed" me into loan to clear. The interest rate on the loan was HIGHER than the unauthorised interest on my account when they removed the OD.

I would NEVER recommend NAtWest to anyone. But then again, some other banks are not much better. Maybe we should launch an AAD bank!

i wouldn't recommend Natwest either....i ended up with a consolidation loan from them (i know, terrible move!) when i was going through a divorce and needed money for solicitor's fees. It's only looking back now i realise how overstretched i was, and what bad terms the loan was. Sharks!

                  Re: NatWest admits signature forgery

Internal forgery is riff in the financial sector and is not just confined to NatWest/RBS it happens on Agreements, Default Notices, Stat Demands the lot across the sector.

Indeed we all have to be diligent in cross examining documents we are sent.

I cannot believe that anyone would have the audacity to suggest that financial institutions would "fudge" up agreements

As if THAT would ever happen

and I have a wee example of an RBS " made up CCA" my signature is there (banked with them previously so could have come from anywhere) but the rest of the writing isn't mine and the detail is fraudulent, including the dates. Wouldn't trust RBS any further than I could fling Fred the bloody Shred...............
