  • DMP, Have I done the right thing?

Thanks for the welcome. I am currently coming out of the darkness ( I hope) and have had a lightbulb moment about 5 weeks ago. I have gone onto a DMP and can now sleep at night for the first time in about 18 months. I am hoping that I have done the right thing as I sometimes here good and bad things about these plans. I would be intersted in any feedback.
This is the first time I have come onto a forum like this, so apologies if I might post in the wrong place etc.

Re: DMP, Have I done the right thing?

most of the debts in my DMP are payday loans - basically I was reloaning as soon as one was paid, just to pay mortgage, bills etc. I now pay a comfortable amount each month and for the first time in a long, long time have got throught othe next payday without needing to loan money form somewhere.
Can I be really thick and ask someone to explain what UE is? I know it is something to do with unenforcable contracts (sorry to be so dumb!!), but it may be something for me to have a look into.
Also I paid Mercers £4,000 (what I thought was a full and final settlement early this year on a barclaycard debt. I owed £5000 and was about £600 behind on payments. They quoted me this F & F figure. Now barclaycard are chasing me for the rest. I do not have anything in writing from mercers though. What shall I do?

Really can't understand why anyone would pay Mercers. Just goes to show that there are vulnerable people out there who are really frightened of the debt collectors. This is exactly why we need this forum to continue.

Hi TJ and welcome to AAD
Can I just ask which DMC you are with TJ?
I do hope it's one which doesn't charge you for their services?

Re: DMP, Have I done the right thing?

Just to add, it's not too late to come out of the DMP you're in if you decide you want to.

Do you have any paperwork at all in relation to the F&F to Mercers? If not, you could ask Barclaycard for a full Statement of Account (to include the passing of your account to Mercers) from inception until present day. This could be done as part of a CCA request to Barclaycard, which would save you the cost of a Subject Access Request.

If they then start to get sh*tty, you could send the SAR but it shouldn't really be necessary. I personally wouldn't pay them any more.... they've had more than enough out of you already.

While it's ok to handle a F&F yourself.... you do need certain wording in the letter to cover yourself against the situation youv'e described. You also need to keep it but you probably know that now anyway. One of mine goes back to 1999!

Re: DMP, Have I done the right thing?

                Hiya
not been on for a while and quite a lot has changed since I was last on. From this forum and other advice on the internet I have got out of my DMP by a PPI reclaim. I was financially and mentally in a very dark place and not quite thinking straight. Once I started on the DMP it allowed me to take a step back and evaluate all my financial mistaked over the last god knows how many years. Anyway I tackled the barclaycard issue and they admitted some major mistake had taken place, payments refunded and £200 compensation given to me. Credit file adjusted. I then received a CPP letter and realised I did not even know I had taken this out/been applied to any of my accounts. This set me thinking of what else I had without realising.
I sent a speculative letter to an old store card and 2 weeks later got a cheque back for just over £3k. Anyway set me off and got a very large and substantial cheque from a credit card in November. This allowed me to make f&f payments on all my PDL's etc.
I am now about to go into battle with shop direct which led me back to to this forum today. I am extremely upset and horrified (and embarressed ) to realise I have got what is called Extra care insurance on 2 old catalogue accounts from back 1993 & 1998 up until 2011. I can honestly say I do not recall taking this out.
I would just like to say that forums like this are a real godsend and would appreciate any help with my next battle!!
                Cheers

Thanks for this - can certainly sleep better at night. Just want to get these last couple of PPI claims sorted out with shop direct. Would I be best off starting a new thread if anyone can give me some advice?
                    cheers

We have a dedicated PPI section so maybe it would make sense to deal with your claim there. Wait until you hear from a Mod. I'll let them know about your query Someone will reply on this thread.
