Very well said Allan What most politicians seem to lack is common sense...they're blind to things that seem obvious to the rest of us because they've got their own political agendas. BTW the pragmatist you're looking for may not be a "he"

I like that Alland, well said, more or less how I feel about politics. I don t bother much until something like this occurs, and then I think ,, better get in the know. Having said that my OH is very much into all this hoo haa, and I tend to switch off. But a lot of what is said on here , he has mentioned so maybe I ll start paying a bit more attention up to voting day.
I do vaguely remember voting to stay in the common market, ( I was only just old enough to vote ) but it was a very different issue.

My OH was a farmer in France for 20 years, so I get that side of the issue, the French and farmers side, and his son still lives there, his daughter is in Denmark. Someone on here said that the other countries dismiss stupid rulings and only implement what they agree with, unlike the UK. That is true.

A friend of his rang him recently , a group of the migrants had taken over his small holding whilst he was away, slaughtered and eaten his goats and used his house as a toilet. The French police moved in rounded them up and they were shipped back where they came from , not giving other authorities chance to move in and dissuade otherwise.

Its a huge emotive subject now, there are lots of tales such as this. My feelings , and I accept I am not knowledgeable in data and politicians, and laws etc etc , but I do listen and read when I know I have a voice, I have read every posting on this thread and a lot is what my OH has been giving me earache with, these past months. This thread has made me take more note at the importance of it all now.

I don t like the EU and the high salaried politicians dictating stupid dictates and laws to us in the uk. I did n t believe some of the things OH told me but its been repeated on here.
I can t accept this mass exodus from wherever they are coming from, its ridiculous and I can t help thinking a lot of them are not genuine people looking for refuge. Why so many sole males, where are the women and children. Its also dangerous with the ISIS thing. I am not racist, but I do know a lot hide behind this term, I ve had experience of that, but they need to apply through the proper channels to get into a country. We do not have streets paved with gold.

History has shown us that these great empires soon fall apart and someone else mentions similar on here, we are different cultures and need time to integrate and certainly I believe in" when in Rome",,,

The issues are endless , but I feel Britain can work for itself, but we cannot accommodate all these migrants, or accept the power coming from abroad, Thats what its all about ..power,....

I cannot comment on the farmers issues ( I didn t listen well enough to my retired farmer OH ) but the one reason he went to farm in France was it was a better deal for him and his family.as opposed to farming in England.

I ll go now and put a bread on lol.... keep posting

My sympathies go when I hear of how they treat peoples properties and belongings , they do not seem to be grateful for help. I also wonder why the folk I see on TV are young able bodied and fit young men who could fight. for their country as we did twice. The way children are put in an impossible situation is awful.its nothing to do with race , its to do with respect.

just looking at the carryon in Macedonia today, 5 children treated for the effects or tear gas, tell me what parent, any parent would have taken children into the riot that was the pulling down of that gate? why would anyone do that to their children? They were in a safe place, in comparison to where they had been, why on Earth would you subject your children to that. That was tantamount to an invasion, they have no respect for other peoples property. I'm not a racists either and have friends and colleagues of all shapes, sizes colours and beliefs and I don't know anyone who believes this is acceptable behavior from anyone.

The EU need to get a grip and pull this together or one of these mini riots is going to get out of hand and great a nasty incident, then the shit will well and truly hit the fan. The EU's handling of the migrants is the best advert the outers have, they are daily frightening the life out of people. and I agree Nanna why all these young men if not looking for money? why are they not in their own country defending their families and properties?

The Bank of England has warned the EU referendum could hurt growth in the first half of this year as it held interest rates at 0.5%.

All nine members of the Bank's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted to keeprates at their record low, where they have now been for over seven years.

The Bank warned uncertainty over the EU referendum could cause "some softening" in growth in the first half of 2016.

The EU needs us and they're worried that if we leave it's all over for them. They lurch from one crisis to another. Soon the chickens will come home to roost. They have serious financial issues as well as immigration issues. Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain will probably go bust soon and it's us helping to keep them afloat. The turks want membership, no way should they be allowed in. This is our only chance to get away from this mess once and for all and look after ourselves the way we did before.

People seem to think we can't stand on our own to feet, of course we can. We always did so can do it again. The money we save could be ploughed into the NHS and investment. We could look after the steel industry, our aging population etc. The EU will still buy our products and we can trade with the commonwealth, China and Asia.

The socialistic ideology will never become reality. It never has in the past and is just a dream. Problem is that there are a lot of dreamers wearing rose tinted glasses.

                                That's it, I'm oot!
