Do you know what Handy, when I was a Headteacher we had a little girl come into one of our Reception classes who was a non-speaker, and only communicated with sign language. At some expense a range of teachers had to be taught Makaton to communicate with this girl. After a short period of assessment we came to the same conclusion as you and so stopped signing and started encouraging her to speak. Within a few months she was a real little chatterbox!

Having been in it, and fought against the system in order to let common sense prevail a lot of the time (hence the breakdown to some extent), I do worry about the way education is going. However, to balance that out, I always used to give a talk to the parents who had children starting school for the first time, and I always used a quotation along the lines of, "When I look at the youth of today, I worry about the future of our civilsation as we now know it." After much nodding and agreeing, I then told them that this quotation came from the 6th century!

Hah but Casp is not part of the "plan". intelleigent properly educated people pose a very real threat to the comfortable often sexually depraved corrupt lives of our "betters". Why was the tripartite system of education got rid of?

They made a big big mistake in educating people like you and I and are making sure the "problem" won't occur for the future.

Found out yesterday that after a specialist PRIVATE examination, our No 1 great nephew is severely dyslexic at 11 years of age. Schools have subjected him to extra work, after school studies and the like, now claiming of course that they didn't know!

B****Y HELL teachers claim to be professionals and want the pensions to go with it! Sorry Casp.

        regards

No need to apologise - I'm not a teacher any more, and I'm not sad about it. Less money, in fact no money, but a much better life. I used to get exceedingly frustrated by the red tape that basically said you weren't allowed to think and I fought against it. It earned me a lot of respect, but also contributed considerably to my health being permanantly knackered. Would I do the same again in the same position? Too damn right I would! Also the issue of holidays - I can tell you I don't know a single teacher who works most of their holiday and I know loads of teachers. They do themselves no favours!

Eh......? What was that dear? Oh me, yes, I've been around for a few hundred years. Now that debt from 1068, yes, just after good old Hastings - would that be Statute Barred by now. Thing is see Mackenzie Hall are still sending me letters about it.

                Hi Casp,

over the holiday matters I can fully concur. My Dad was one of that now extinct breed, the technical college lecturer (in production engineering) for the twenty years of his working life The first couple years were difficult in getting all his lecture notes together etc. After that I will admit he had the life of Riley--- 13 weeks holiday a year and even when they introduced the 48week year for colleges, they retianed their holiday entitlement and were paid time and half for the weeks they would have normally been away in the summer as per the academic calendar.

Did you know an anagram of Bayeux Tapestry is "Bust ye taxpayer!"

and to get back to thread, excuse American spelling, an anagram of Adventures of a Handyman is "A dad maneuvers hot fanny!"

                        garlok,

1 of my brothers had dyslexia. My parents went into the primary school when he was in p2 and said they thought there was a slight issue with his development (he was my parents' 4th child so they kind of knew which stages he should have been at with spelling and such by then) and the school just said he was lazy.

When he went to grammar School, they picked it up straight away and he was given the extra help he needed.

My mother's still raging at the teacher who dismissed it - in fact, she's been raging with that teacher since she told my oldest brother that Santa wasn't real when he was 6...he's going to be 29 in March
