For your own peace of mind perhaps run the wording of the settlement past someone at National Debtline?

    National Debtline Tel Free: 0808 808 4000

While that wouldn't be an official legal opinion, they are normally quite good with these.

Oh dear not another supporter of these firms that get 100% funding from Barclays and Lloyds!

This firm is run by Money Advice Trust; who are entirely funded by handouts from Banks - I would never suggest calling them or using them for anything!

The have their purposes, and in this sort of thing are normally very good.

Dismissing valid sources of advice out of hand is very narrow minded.

I'm disappointed in you Niddy. That attitude is shameful.

I just hate pro-bank supporters mate, it makes you question the integrity of the information - seriously, if you check their site there is so much out of date info that it's scary!

I believe until only a few days ago they still had the old BR rates and several other major discrepancies - can't be bothered to find them all but put simply, they are trying to cover too much thus cannot maintain the accuracy in line with changes to legislation.

Oh, did I forget to mention they are funded by Barclays Bank?

If that disappoints you mate then sorry, but anyone that relies on funding from banks is not really something I will openly admit to being happy referring to, from here. There are better sources of info out there

          For clarity

Barclaycard have been working with Money Advice Trust to help specify and develop an internet based, money advice solution to help consumers take steps to getting their finances back on track.

Honestly, I don't give a flying fuck at a rolling donut where the funding for somewhere comes from if the advice is good and helpful to people who need help.

I post on forums such as this to help people.

I try not to let narrow mindedness like that get in the way of helping people.

            It's a shame you don't.

God! I hate CAG, but if I think that is the place where someone will get the help they need, then dammit I'll even swallow my pride and send them there.

I'm anything but narrow minded Rizzle, steady!

I am stating facts, how can one trust the accuracy of data that was produced using funds from the people we're fighting in the first place?

I don't think it is narrow minded saying that X company is funded by a bank, however go and ask Y & Z companies for their opinion as they are funded by the government/private equity and totally impartial - and for you to suggest so makes me think you're not looking at things the same.

I am not disputing that we're here to help, jesus christ, but see beyond that - why would national debtline be preferred to say CCCS or PayPlan whom both also have vast experience in dealing with creditors, some may argue moreso than the ND anyway?

But yea, I am extremely principled and won't personally actively refer someone to a fee charging firm or a firm in bed with the enemy. Defeats why we exist.

I think most debt help sites use similar templates, so I don't see how an advisor on £16k over the phone can satisfy any legal argument by asking them what they think of a F&F offer letter. Please, don't take offence - it's my opinion....

Sorry just to put into perspective, how would you all feel if right now I told you I was opening AAD to the vultures and taking donations from banks and DCA's in exchange for them to provide data and users to respond to the posts in here?

I bet we'd soon be empty of posters, other than bank staff right? Would you trust a word that came out their mouths? Would you really follow their advice to the letter and ask their recommendation?

I doubt it very much somehow! So the whereabouts of data is actually very important to me, and to the users of AAD.

It's exactly the same, as sending someone to National Debtline.

Come on guys! This is tough enough, I can vouch for the fact that Barclays and their whole coven are treacherous and despicable. They cannot be trusted to help an old lady across the road and anyone who is funded, sponsored or supported by them HAS to have a conflict of interest somewhere. They do not do ANYTHIMNG unless there is a return in it for them.

This NOT opinion I have the scars to prove it.

                      regards

Perhaps i should also point out that the banner headlines on the first page of CAG carry advertisments for some pretty nasty debt collection agencies.

On a consumer self help site?????????????

They certainly don't know their legal **** from their elbow.

However, with NDL I've had a lot of very very well informed advice over the years, so yes, I would say they are certainly preferable in cases like this.

No. Steering people away from somewhere that could help them because you personally don't like where their funding comes from defeats why places like this exist.

That is if you actually want to help people.
