  • Writing to debt companies?

So I posted a thread How to get account numbers? - allaboutFORUMS on one of my debts who sent me a letter threatening court action.

Now can they do anything if I write to them, say I write to them it has my address on does that confirm me at my address and for them to send me more messages or someone round to my house?

Also why does a collection company write to me about CrapQuest and not them themselves?

    Cheers!

It sounds like you've had a phishing letter, which means that if you write back, you will be confirming that you are who they're looking for.

You need to provide a few more details about the debt before we can advise further though.

    How old is the debt?
    Who was the original creditor?
Which company is chasing you now?
What kind of debt is it?
When was the last time you made a payment (approx.)

The reason debts get passed to collection companies is to make you believe that the matter has been escalated. If this letter you speak of mentions court however, then we need to know the story behind it, so please answer the questions above.
    Remember the mantra:

Keep a copy of EVERYTHING sent
    Keep hold of EVERYTHING received

See above from P1 plus bear in mind writing to them (using OUR templates) will NOT acknowledge any debt so will not affect SB'd date. Obviously if you're off the radar, so to speak, then it'd be daft writing but assuming they have contacted you, they already know your address or you'd not have got that letter! They do searches using CRA's and tracing features - seems it's worked eh?

Oh, they would have sold the rights to collect hence you're probably being contacted by a third party DCA.

      Hope the above helps....
