  • Three million young adults still live with parents

The thing that struck me about this report is that the majority of young adults who are still living with their parents are men. Maybe something to do with not knowing how to work a washing machine

I wish my daughter still lived at home with me. I miss her dreadfully

We don't need to know how a washing machine works.......or an iron for that matter....

Reminds me of when eldest son was at uni, every time he wanted to do dome washing he would phone me, describe the settings on a machine that I had never seen so that I could tell him how to do his washing!

he also phoned to ask if he needed to peel potatoes before he cooked them to make mash

My eldest has her own family locally...My almost 20 year old still lives with me... and he is very savvy with the running of a home, cooking etc etc.. he's at a local Uni though so not sure if he will be once he finishes in 2015.

My 17 year old keeps saying "I'm never moving out" as does my 10 year old Son... the 12 year old son has grand plans of being a famous archaeologist and living everywhere... lol

My husband once called me in Beirut because he was in Sainsbury's and didn't know which toothpaste to buy

My youngest son who is 28 has Aspergers and I dearly wish I could see the day that he leads a normal life and MOVES out... highly unlikely as the system stinks and once you are a adult over 21 you get no help unless you are classed as "mentally ill" which he isnt. He just has a diagnosis of aspergers which causes "issues" great because he doesnt have the confidence to leave the house or socialise with people who comes to the house so therefore lives in his bedroom. The one good thing is I always have something to do .. cleaning.. washing..cooking..

When I say my daughter has 'left home' what I really mean is she has taken the best bits to her place and left behind the dross. She may have physically gone but my bank balance hasn't noticed the difference when it comes to picking up the tab for her car insurance and mobile phone bill. I keep paying it because she says she won't be able to visit me without a car or call me if she's had a serious accident abroad. I succumb to the emotional blackmail every time

I'll get my own back when I'm old and become a burden on her. Not long to go

There are also the boomerang kids that move out and then move back with another room full of stuff on top of the stuff they left behind before they went away. With the cry "I didn't ask to be born" they consume the contents of the fridge and wallets without batting an eyelid. Seems like old age will not see anything reciprocal. Shame................

Re: Three million young adults still live with parents

Youngest lives with us (19) but wants to leave this year *sobs* whilst eldest (26) lives away anyway.

I do miss having a house full, especially when it's your own kids. I'd love for them both to come and live with us again but in doing so would mean one becomes single and one decides not to go to uni - so I guess we learn to accept it.

talking of phone contracts, I've just got a new one for youngest daughter this week.

The fact they can both wrap me around their little finger is neither here nor there really

Re: Three million young adults still live with parents

Most young people can't afford to move out if they're ever going to save up a deposit for a place of their own. It would cost my daughter and her bf between £600 and £800 to rent a decent place and that's without the bills and food, etc.

I'm happy to have them living with me rather than pay out that kind of dead money each month.

I still live at home and am in 30's. There are several reasons as to why, one of which is costs money. There are others which would mean I would want to be close by (and that's a two way street)

we mover from Manchester for a better education for our two girls, our eldest daughter went to uni in manchester, and never came home she worked and lived there till she met her bf and has now moved to sheffield to live with him, and has a job there. youngest is still with us [33] and as most of you know we [I] intend to retire to espania very soon, as youngest works 2 part-time jobs there is no chance of her being independant anytime soon, so she may well be the youngest retiree on the retirement village we want to move to !!

Both my boys are back home they are 29 and 34 they have both tried to live elsewhere but my wife still ended up doing the washing and cleaning, we had to help them out with rent ect, one went to Australia for 18 months that cost us a fortune as well, they are both pretty useless at diy that includes laundry ect. if he could have arranged it I am sure my son would have sent his washing home from Aus to get it washed. I don't think we will ever get rid of them.
