    F*A*!**A B*!*!!!!

long story short moved into my place a few years ago (housing association bungalow) standard burglar alarm fitted by them from the previous tennant, they service and repair when needed so its a weight off my mind till now

Alarm's been playing up ringing on one zone (my bedroom) and nothing seems to trip it, sent one of their repair men around last week fiddled for a while then said he'd sorted it shouldnt go off randomly now BUT if it did start again to contact the office & they would organise a replacement alarm panel....it started again last night going off half a dozen times till 3am...rang the office told them what the last guy said about the panel she says "sorry if its the panel that needs replacement we dont do that"......I asked how the hell was I expected to fork out for a new one & fitting to which she answered "not her problem"

since being here now on my own some nights i'm a little jumpy being by myself...and if I have to go out i'd be worrying mad if someone had actually got into the house (as i've had to leave the alarm off a few times)

Rant..over just so bloody annoyed with it..and worried sick now they're sending someone & they refuse to replace the part they said it could be...I dont have the spare cash thats for sure

So the alarm is sounding because of a trigger in your bedroom when you are in it?
If so, sounds like the zone isn't exempt when it's being set.

Quite, failing that simply remove that PIR and relocate it, or deactivate it from the cPanel...

If you tell us the name and model (or a clear photo) of the alarm panel, that would help....

              Thanks Guys again...

              Its this panel

Optima Compact G4 (onboard keypad) - CCTVdirect

found all the paperwork for it & can shut the zone off thats faulty...no PIR though niddy they're mag contacts on the frame etc instead and thanks to this bloody arthritis & cant hold a bloody screwdriver long enough to strip the contact & check that for faults..

                Re: Housing Associations...

I used to fit these a long time ago when i was contemplating an electricians apprenticeship so i will try and remember!

If both the window contacts and PIR are wired on the same zone, to pinpoint which one is faulty you could by-pass them one at a time.

It will probably be a 4-core cable with one pair just twisted together - leave these alone - it's the tamper loop.
The pair on the contacts of the window contact and PIR can be twisted together to find out which one is faulty.

From memory the panels were reliable, but you can also by-pass the whole zone by using the same piece of wire.

All this is assuming you can get someone to do it for you if your hands are bad. Housing association don't support it then?

                  Re: Housing Associations...

They'll support it and are due out AGAIN to look...but they now say if anything needs replacements they're not paying for anything which is weird seeing as they fitted the thing when the bungalows were built a few years back

but thanks for the help...i'll have a crack on a good day & see if what you kindly suggest missy can solve anything
