  • The time has come...

Well, I am looking into a pension I don't have a UK one and DH is 40 now he needs to sort himself out. Reading an article on ... Ahem MSE I read that stakeholder isn't the way forward so I was looking into a company called....Cavendish

Anyway I figure this wee bit of money I have sitting here is better in a retirement fund then in an ISA.

But im not up on the pension thing so any advice would be appreciated

I ain't no expert Jen but some of the returns are pathetic, I'd rather stash it under the bed. My company set up a pension last year, I would have been paying 3% of my salary and the company would pay 3% (not great I know) I have around 10 years to retirement and I would have got around £1000 per year, not really worth the bother!!! I opted not to give em all those fees and am to save in other places. just my feeling, remember I am the generation whose with profits endowments went shits up, who got stuck with 6 extra working years and have been generally stiffed by the financial industry so I may be a wee bit biased!!!

      My feelings exactly Dopey. !!

Stash the cash under the bed........it doesn't pay to save anymore.

Or spend it and have fun whilst we can.

Couldn't agree more! I'm looking at other ways to shore up my retirement, got a few pensions and all of them quite lousy.

My parents who are 78 and 80 have always tried to save a bit, not much 'cos they were never high earners. They don't have private pensions just the state pension and because they have a few thousand in savings they are not able to collect any extra benefits........so we 'kids' have got accounts with a couple of thousand in where mum and dad can stash any extra money they manage to save.......its a bit of a bugger when they have to hide money to get extra from the government, but folks who have never done a days work get everything. Think the government have got it wrong.!!!

I know......but I'm not working or claiming any benefits of any kind, so hopefully I should be okay. We will never be in the position of getting any benefits etc, OH has a MOD pension and also a private one, so we should be okay........
