  • Overdraft concerns

Sadly I bank with Barclays and have to rely on my overdraft each month, however, with the new charges coming into force, it will mean that I simply will not be able to manage.
I'm losing sleep over this as I am unable to think of a solution, they should change their name to greedy barstewards :-(

Can you change banks; start afresh and pay Barclays back at a rate that suits you....

      Re: Overdraft concerns

Hi Niddy, thank you for your reply.
I applied for a Santander account and have been accepted, however, my concern is that the Barclays charges will spiral and more importantly my car loan and mortgage are also with Barclays, thanks to ING selling out. I have looked into remortgaging, but that is not possible.
So I'm caught and have the dreaded fear of having rebuilt my credit files and retrieved my sanity, it's likely that Barclays will bring it all tumbling down and no UE's this time around.

Ok how do you mean? An OD is usually cheap so why are the charges so difficult to manage - it won't cost that much for a grand AUTHORISED overdraft.... Can you please be specific

          Re: Overdraft concerns

Barclays are changing their overdraft fees in June and by the end of each month I am almost 3k into my overdraft, therefore, the new fees are going to cause a bigger deficit each month, as they will be charged by the day.
i have asked if my overdraft can be added to my loan, so that I can pay it off, but the answer was no.

            Re: Overdraft concerns

Typical of Barclays, they had me tied in to £22.00 every 5 days for well over a year. Only a tax rebate got me out of the majority of charges. Will be getting hit by the new charges soon, however at present only into overdraft about 10 days a month. Barstewards.
They keep promising to issue a default and close my current account but not happened yet.

We both clearly feed them too well :-(
i need to reduce my outgoings, but it's challenging, probably due to all those Caribbean holidays, I wish!

                Re: Overdraft concerns

                hi there,
Sorry to read your predicament; it brings back memories for me - i also had a big overdraft with Barclays and eventually left with nothing every month.

Really depends on your circumstances and how you wish to move forward with this. You could have your wages paid in to another account and sod them although they will default you, or perhaps a family/friend could help you out in the short term?
If the former - when was account opened? They aren't the best at keeping paperwork ;w

                Cheers
                SA

                  Re: Overdraft concerns

                  Hi SA,
Thank you for your reply, particularly as you have been in a similar situation, so perhaps understand how easy it becomes a way of life!
I am wary of defaulting on the account, due to the loan & mortgage, also my credit files are finally back in order, so I could put myself back in the mire very easily. The account has been open more than twenty years. I don't have anyone that I would be comfortable asking for help from, so I am going to have to see what June/July brings.
It is clearly time to find a way of reducing my outgoings instead of living on an overdraft, but it's not going to be easy :-(
