This is nothing new unfortunately and demonstrates that Wongas 'robust' systems are anything but.

Last year I assisted someone whose 16 year old son had managed to take out a loan with Wonga, who, once they had discovered their error, then started to play heavy with the usual 'we will contact the police and treat this matter as fraud' routine.

Of course, they were neglecting to mention the fact they shouldn't have given a 16 year old a loan in the first place..........

Simple fact is their automated systems are inadequate to prevent this, or for that matter intentional and organized fraud. Wonga are not the worst, Minicredit, Txtloans have also been in the news about this, and the people whose details have been used for the fraudulent transactions then have an uphill battle for this companies to believe them.

"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

The consumer is that sleeping giant.!!
