  • what should i be doing?

I'm not sure if this is in the right place. You have the power, move if needed

I was a bus driver until September last year when i started to fall asleep at the wheel. I pulled myself off the road immediately and began to see my doctor. To cut a long story short I'm due to see a specialist for an overnight sleep study next week.

I'm on £65 p/w employment support allowance (what they used to call incapacity benefit).

I split from my partner last month and currently sleep on a camp bed in my sisters front room. Money could be better, but it could be worse.
I contribute towards food and as such my only outgoings are car insurance (£50 per month), associated running costs, RAC and living expenses.

I have about £7,000 debt outstanding.
So far I have removed £500 by telling Robinson Way to p*ss off on a debt from 2003 that is SB.
£500 is disputed debt from nationwide which is all bank charges after i changed accounts.
I have £2300 that will be SB in two months (CAG said to ignore it).
£1000 is outstanding council tax from 2008ish.
£500 is for three mobile (£348 early cancellation fee which i'm disputing)
and the rest is made up of other small debts.

Now i'm assuming I should head to the council tax first. I've had letters from Swift Credit about it. I suppose I should respond.
The rest are between 3 and 5.8 years old.

Any advice in clearing them would be appreciated. I can only contact the DCA by e-mail. I have no fixed address as i do not want my sisters address linked with me.

you need to sort the council tax arrears, these are classed as priority debts and MUST be considered prior to unsecured debts

thought so, i fired an e-mail off to the county council involved as opposed to the DCA.
I'll await the reply before dealing with anything else. I've heard they can take money straight from benefits.

If you're on benefits you will get to pay the minimum on your council tax arrears which i believe is still around £5 per month.

Good Luck on the statute barred, 2 months isn't long !!
I hereby promise to treat Debt Collection Agencies with the same values that they treat me. UTTER CONTEMPT !!

Remember with statute barred it is not at 6 years but more 6 years from date of first missed payment, so if you last paid on 10th January 2005 - the debt would NOT be Statute Barred until AT LEAST 11th February 2011.

Basically add a day and a month onto the date you last paid to establish definite SB.

How long should i wait for a reply? I know it's usually don't phone but would it be wise to lapse on that rule.
Bear in mind i'm contacting the council NOT the DCA who've written to me.

Re: what should i be doing?

Got a loverly e-mail back. I have £1300~ outstanding, £900~ was with swift credit, thats being called back. I can have money taken off my benefits.... £3.30 per week.

Ok i won't will any prizes for fastest repayment of the decade but at least it's one less to worry about.

Unless i go back to work, it'll be paid off in a little over 8 years
