I'm debating purchasing a tablet, and wonder if a 7 inch one allows a big enough keyboard to type reasonably (not one fingered poking at a small key).

Has anyone experience of these, and are the cheaper ones any good?

Any recommendations welcomed? Can't afford Apple.

My mate just bought a Nexus 7 - I set it up for him, not bad for less than £200..... But me, I have iPad/iPhone etc.

the nexus is like the iPad mini - it finds in one hand but it's weird.... I do like the iPhone for daily use and the iPad for reading bigger stories (and porn etc).... the Nexus is just too small to use as a main tablet IMO.

        As you do

I don't have an i-pad so use Ubuntu to stop my Windows machine being "fucked".

Any views on an Acer A110?

Also, is typing OK for two handed typing or are the buttons too small?

I shall have to ask my oldest the name of his, but his is a tablet and I do know he gets on well with it.

The Ipad mini looks very good, I tried to buy one after playing with it, but unfourtunatly they only had the 64 gig one left which was to much!!!

Is the screen big enough for normal web browsing of a site like this say, or would I be better going for the bigger 10 inch screen?

I'd try and take a look at a similar device in the shops - even if its not the same model you should get a feel and if its right for you. And then order online for best price!

                      Re: Tablets

I don't have any experience of other tablets but I am completely hooked on the Ipad.

Yes the "apple brand" makes them expensive, but they do everything I want plus have a supply of apps that I need for aviation related stuff that are not available with android based tablets.

Problem is I now want the mini ipad as well as it will make life a whole lot more comfortable for some of the stuff I use it for...more expense...

BBoo you could try and source a used Ipad, now the 4th generation is out many folk will be upgrading and looking to offload earlier versions which may suit your needs.

PS. and if you are anti Apple, you can always "jailbreak" the ipad ..

                          Re: Tablets

I have a 7" Samsung galaxy but it only has 2.3 on it. All the experts say you need a minimum of android 3.0. It's great for what it is, reading.playing games etc. Web browsing can be a pain with small print as you have to zoom in and then scroll the page. Typing is strictly one finger for me. I lust after an ipad.
Something to think about with the nexus is that it is wifi only so unless you are within reach of wifi or can tether it to your phone you are a little tied.

I would suggest buying the larger screen.
