  • DLA renewal form due soon.

I thought I would post this up ready.

My son's DLA will run out the day before his 18th Birthday, his birthday is 15 January, so I expect anytime over the following months his renewal will come through.

With this current award he was awarded from the age of 12 and its been non stop, of high rate care and low rate mobility, so quite lucky really. I only had a home visit before he turned 16 in order for me to be his appointee.
I expect the next one if awarded it will be an indefinate award due to PIPS coming in.

    So........
I may have a few questions when the time comes.

    Thank you.

I wouldnt bank on that Di. I am aware of people on indefinte DLA that will be reassessed for PIP and are likely to lose a portion of their benefit due to the new points system.

I am likely to have more information on the entire process soon (unless PF beats me to it) - and this is the actual approved process - ie what WILL happen as opposed to what MAY happen which was the situation at the end of last year / beginning of this.

So true, these bugger just want to kick everyone off DLA soon to be PIP and IB, off DLA with the mid or high care also means you will probably lose carers allowance too, all to be replaced by sixty odd quid a week JA, there are some absolute horror stories of these ATOS assessments.
Good luck Di but as oscar says PF is the specialist in these matters.

Was a massive talk about this on LBC couple of months ago, the way they were assessing people was disgusting quite frankly.

Asking things like, lift your arms above your head, and hold them there, then assessing them based on how long they can do it for etc.

Some questions having no relation to the actual reason for claiming DLA

Yeah I'm pretty sure that the ATOS assessors get paid on the basis of how many people they can "move off" these benefits, there is a chap that lives next door to my step mom, he is quite poorly and attended his DLA medical with his carer, the ATOS report stated that this man did nothing all day but sit and watch tv and play on his computer, this guy is a Prof of music and a JP who still works albeit part time but he still sits on the bench too. He obviously appealed and was awarded high care and high mobility, these people are just printing plain lies about people which is why the appeal success's are so high. If the initial assessment was fair then there would be no need for so many people to appeal, I am sure that they have been told to reject everyone on some basis - any basis because a lot of people are put off appealing by the reams of paperwork that comes with, they have already had to fill in a near 40 page form for DLA anyway.

Hell they will try and get you off Incapacity Benefit even before the ESA assessment if they can:

              Cheers Guys

I know it's going to be very tough.
My son does not receive any other benefits, no IB, because he still has eduction I still currently receive child tax credits, but I do get paid carers allowance.

I really don't know how he would cope at the assessment to be honest, just hope someone who understands autism and the needs that come with it - who is fully trained will be used, looks like that's been mentioned according to the Autism website......

                Di,

You will need to make this clear to them:

                THE FULL FACTS Login

As Autistic Spectrum Disorder / Autism is in group 1 (1. Unsuitable for calling to a Medical Examination Centre.) he could have a home visit and/or no WCA at all depending on the amount of medical evidence submitted.

                  Thank you Pompey.
                  This is very helpful.

An home visit he may be ok with, and I have plenty of support from various specialists and key workers, and the lady at Mencap who my son is under - over the years have been amazing, and have always said to contact her if any problems and to attend any meetings.

Re: DLA renewal form due soon.

                    Di,

Given his condition I would definitely insist on a home visit and at the same time arrange for one of his support workers to be there with him.

However you may find if an up to date medical statement which you can get from his GP shows no sign of improvement in his health condition from what DWP Blackpool already have on record an assessment may not be needed.

Like I say medical records and up to date medical statement as well as supporting letters from his social care providers will all go a long way in fending of an assessment.

                    Regards

I am going to plan well ahead, even though it will still be on a DLA basis, until it changes to PIP, especially as the months are flying by lol.x

Indeed Di as PIP is delayed anyway and Ian Duncan Smith's target date of early 2013 is way out, thus I doubt if it will be brought in during this parliament term.

I remember cammy's words clearly before the election "If you are disabled we will look after you", a bit like Hitler saying "Yeah the showers are over there".
