Another way for the banks to reduce their costs and alienate those who do not wish to use internet banking or are unable to access internet banking.

For the elderly who live in villages where the banks have closed down local branches, this is another kick in the teeth.

Put simply would you trust a bank to provide accurate online statements, for up to six years (or longer), whose IT systems went into meltdown only a couple of months ago?

Or would you trust a bank who are denying people access to their own money because they happen to have old 'passport' style bank books, simply because the banks have no electronic record of money being held with them?

My personal experience of finding online bills being deliberately altered/tampered with during a dispute with British Gas (which I was able to prove as they had sent me the paper bills which I had kept!) is enough that I would not trust ANY company now to only provide me with 'online' access.

How long do you think it will be before we will be charged for the 'service' of paper bills?

The consumer is that sleeping giant.!!
