    Howl long do you need to keep paperwork?

    If a cc, loan etc has been cleared, how long do you need to keep the paperwork?

    since 2002 I have settled/ cleared quite a few cards and loans and have kept all the statements etc. can I now destroy it? I have claimed back any PPI that I could find.

    Logic tells me yes, but am trying to ensure that I don't make any more financial cock ups!!!

    I know what you mean......I'm the wrong person to ask really ...... Cos I like to keep everything normally ( Forever)

    Kept all my old CCA's/ Statements ect for years all squirreled away then moved house and lost them somewhere ( Little did I know !!!)

    Anyway given that they are settled it has not been unknown for some companies to try and pursue things later on down the line so I think the belt and braces approach ( Given that you have worked so hard to get these settled ect) would be to put them in a box in the loft ect just in case.

    There is no doubt a time limit with such things ( Like 6 years SB ect) but you just may need to prove beyond any doubt that it was settled and on what terms ect one day - Without your proof that will be a bit harder.

    A debt is SB after 6 years but how many times do we hear of a "Chancer" making some sort of claim 8 years down the line. Yes it will never go anywhere but you will feel so much better when you have the evidence in front of you ect - Especially if some low life company issued as Stat. Demand ect - Provide your paperwork - Case closed .....And a lot less worrying for you

          Is there a way maybe you could scan a copy of the last statement showing the balance being clear, save it as a PDF on your PC and then destroy the rest? saves loads of space.

            Thanks for that suggestion. I was just going to suggest that maybe keep a final statement and perhaps some letters that state all completed and maybe get rid of the rest!

              Okay, another one......how long do you need to keep statements for accounts that you have arrangements on?
