(a copy of something I posted OTR)
My interest in this started with an online news story - link - about details of O2 customers being meekly handed over to an outfit called Goldeneye (International) Limited. Those customers were alleged to have infringed various copyrights to pornographic filth produced by Ben Dover films. No, I have not downloaded any of their disgusting rubbish.
See Ben Dover and speculative invoicing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia
Even though it seems they are unlikely to drag anyone before the Patents Court because it would cost too much, the letter the 9000 O2 customers will receive - PDF link - does not seem to be nearly so candid.
So I had a look at them - Golden Eye International
I entered their postcode into the Data Protection Register search page and, although there were three companies listed with their address, none was Goldeneye (International) Limited. Nor did any company listed use Goldeneye as a trading name or style.
So I reported them. Call me old fashioned if you must, but wouldn't it be nice if those alleging misdeeds by others could take the trouble to comply with the law?
I checked whence Goldeneye (International) Limited had obtained its data and found that they used the same source - Clem Volger - who was involved in previous cases. See Golden Eye International - IP Tracking and Clem's Clients - yes, he actually seems proud to have worked for Davenport Lyons and ACS Law.
But what's this at the foot of the page?
That does look a bit naughty, when one considers Adlitem Limited was dissolved on 13 September 2011.
So that got reported, too.
