Tesco Staff Make Up Time Lost After Riots

Staff at a Tesco store in Greater Manchester are having to make up the hours they lost when the supermarket closed during recent rioting.

The Tesco Metro at Salford Shopping City closed early on August 9, following police advice as riots closed in on the centre and concerns about looting grew.
After the store shut, the manager checked it was safe for staff to leave and sent them home. Employees at the Salford branch are now having to take unpaid leave or work the hours lost as a result of the shop shutting early.

A spokesperson for Tesco told Sky News: "It is national policy that when stores are closed, staff need to make up time and are given options of how to do so.
"We have to work on a case-by-case basis to find the best way for our staff to make up for lost time. "Options might include, taking holiday, swapping shifts, taking unpaid leave or making up the time."

The spokesperson added: "We have bent over backwards to help people keep their jobs and get them back to work as soon as possible, where others with small businesses have lost everything. "We do not think it is unreasonable to give staff options to make up money, so they are not being penalised and do not lose out."

One might doubt that the founder of Tesco, "Sir" Jacob Kohen, would have treated his staff like that.

But, then, one must bear in mind that Jacob Kohen was Jewish, whereas the current management are a wunch of money-grubbers. (link)

Also see link for the Tesco policy on sick pay and link for how it treats its staff in America.

See link for details of how Tesco pays all the tax it has to do and never evades paying any taxes.

Hi all, I've just been having a look through today's headlines and it feels more like wading through Bull Shine. Plenty about our Political leaders Blaming one another and everything else for the Nations ills, but little if anything on the front pages about the Financial crisis. I had to laugh when George Osborne was banging on about how his policies were working. Double Dip Recession? whats one of them Come off of it George, did we ever get out of the first one?

Blair has put his two pennerth worth in as well. The policies we set up lost impetus when I came out of office. As one pundit said most of the Rioters were born when he was running things. He goes on to claim that we are not in Moral decline. I suggest he looks at the scandals that shook his government when they were in power.

Then comes the News that Mandy Mandelson is buying an 8 million pound house in London. Now when did we forget that its only a few years ago that he had to resign over and undeclared 375K loan to buy another house. I forget how much do MP's and European Commissioners get paid. He's done well for a Labor Lad hasn't he.

David Miliband is planing to force all Labor Councilors to hand over 7% of their townhall pay to shore up Labors empty coffers.
Now these folk are paid from the Community charge, and that is our money. If I wanted to donate to Labor (and I don't) I would do it directly and not through the back door.

And finally Cameron is saying that its the European Human rights act that is the cause of all the problems. He says the Law is being abused by people with now sense of personal responsibility. I thought that that just about summed up anyone who flouts the Law, including his own.

I watched his speech on National Service (Citizen) the other day. Then when I looked it up I was astounded to find that some youngsters are having to pay up to £99.00 to attend.

Some of the Chavs I know would have to sell 3 bags of Skunk and Mug 2 pensioners to get that much.

As its voluntary, the kids who sign up for this are the sort that will be doing the Duke Of Edinburghs award or such like anyway. (I believe that this would count as the Citizenship part anyway).

In a week when billions have been wiped of the UK economy (and this is the Debt related site bit) which affects each and everyone of us.

To me it seems like they are just offering more pantomime to amuse the masses, while evading the real issues.

          Regards all, Handy.

The answer to that is simple - get the Tory and LibDem councillors to agree (by telling them how popular it would be) to cut their council pay by 50%.

And finally Cameron is saying that its the European Human rights act that is the cause of all the problems. He says the Law is being abused by people with no sense of personal responsibility.
Even if that Act were to be repealed completely, it would make not one bit of difference to the human rights the UK has agreed to maintain.

Does Cameron believe (as the twit Nigel Farrage seems to do) that the European Convention on Human Rights was foisted upon the UK by those nasty and suspicious-looking foreigners in the EU?

Don't wish for that - the kakistocracy might prohibit chair ownership.

True, but isn't it more of a treat for a wench to be serviced by an Old Etonian?

What I'd like to know is if he said "grace" beforehand:

For what you are about to receive, may The Lord make you truly grateful. Amen.
Or did he just plough straight in, to a chant of "Bull-er! Bull-er!" as if he were at a Bullingdon Club dinner?

Even an article on King Cole himself. Arthur Scargill. I used to drive past the house he had near Barnsley. It was known to the locals as King Arthurs Castle. Back in the 70's it was worth a few bob then. Now I learn that he lives in a 1.5M flat in the Barbican,
funded by the NUM. I wonder how that compares with other pensioners flats funded by the union?

I wonder if he still gets his Ton of concessionary Coal?

Of course, that lobby group should not be confused with Global Counsel net which seems to exist to ease the migration of Indian citizens to wealthier countries with better welfare systems.

Good Evening All. Handy has just been reading George Osborne's speech to GQ magazine yesterday when he received their Politician of the Year award.

In the report on ITN they never mentioned any of this.

This is a copy of the speech he gave.

'Thank you. I won’t reveal your secret past as chairman of the National Young Conservatives about twenty years ago.
'It is a pleasure to win this award. I’ve just come from addressing about 300 bankers in the City of London and it says something about my profession that I was still the most unpopular person in the room.
'It is a fine recognition. Of course, we pay close attention to what Nick [Robinson] brilliantly reports on the 10 o’clock news, and what’s written in the pages of the Financial Times.
'I’m not sure who actually reads the politics pages of GQ magazine though, Dylan – I suspect they are the only pages of the magazine that a teenage boy hasn’t stuck together in reading the magazine.
'Some might say that’s because the WANKERS are on the page rather than reading them. Thank you very much for the award.'

Well at least he's honest. He knows what most of the public have for years that career politicians are

Do you really suppose Cameron is so enamoured with the LibDems that he would actually scupper the NHS?

As the late Sir Humphrey Appleton would have said, such would be a very courageous act, as it could quickly achieve numerical parity of the number of Conservatives in England and in Scotland.

Say Hello to Doctor Handy. After being married to 2 nurses and the training I had in the mob. I can run rings round most GP's.
Sad to say but unless the electorate finds it's Balls your right.

Most GP's I know are greedy Barstewards. They couldn't make it in General Medicine, so they go into a community practice.

One I knew would get you through his surgery in 3 minutes (when you could get an appointment). He was Captain of his local (Millionaires) Golf Club. If you worked for a company that employed him as the Company Doctor (RMC for one) You were guaranteed a home visit and an instant referral to a specialist.

The UK is the envy of the World when it comes to Health Care. We don't have much going for us lets not give this up.

Of course the Doctors and the Drug Companies do a lot of lobbying, but what a fix for the economy if we all had to pay for health care.

What about the folks with private insurance? they go Private to see a Doctor, then get their treatment on the NHS. Now if they put a stop to this and got shot of all the silly managers, employed Old style Sisters with some Nouse and scrapped NICE, we would be getting somewhere.

                            Regards, Handy.

Going private is certainly one way of jumping the queue.
