  • Barcalys telling porkies?

I opened a barclays basic account and have jsut had a phone call saying that if i dont have direct deposits into it then they will close it claiming its a dormant account

I'm sure thats rubbish as dormancy is usually 12months no usage aint it?

Can't you have your JSA paid into it? Or if that's being paid into another account set up a DD to transfer some of it into the Barclays account.

a bank can restrict and/or limit functionality at their leisure.

          You have no rights.

Seriously though, if you opened an account and never ever deposited the opening value then they will close it at some point, usually within 90 days.

If you made the opening deposit, they can still close it whenever they like, giving the standard BBA 30 days notice.

I've used the debit card for a few small things here and there

there is still 8p left in it atm

                  Re: Barcalys telling porkies?

Well the account is still open with no letters or such saying it will be closed.

Now its gonna be an instant access savings with debit card functionality.

                    Re: Barcalys telling porkies?

Sorry to hi-jack your thread, but something similar happened to me back in 2008.
Sainsbury's credit card sent me an application for a 0% card out of the blue. Applied, granted and received the card few weeks later.
Less than two months later, letter received effectively saying "if you have no intention of using it we will close the account"....
When Gold isn't enough, there is SA Gold! New to the forum and find the UE route a bit scary? Take a look at my diary here and judge for yourself. I am now saving the money each month that was making little difference to the balance and not a bit of difference to my credit file as a result of finding AAD.
