  • Exclusive: Hays Discloses RBS Pay Deals

The recruitment specialist Hays is at the centre of an embarrassing gaffe today after one of its employees distributed an email disclosing the remuneration of thousands of contractors working for the state-backed Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).
I have learnt that a Hays employee yesterday inadvertently forwarded a message showing the pay of about 3000 contract staff working for RBS in disciplines such as human resources and risk management to approximately 800 of those contractors.
It threatens to become one of the more humiliating corporate email mishaps of recent years - for both Hays and RBS.
For Hays, which has launched an investigation into how the incident occurred, the episode raises questions about its security processes.
For RBS, which was blameless in the distribution of the email, it may also have awkward repercussions since I am told that the data showed that some of its contract staff are paid as much as £2000 a day. That's a mind-boggling sum for a bank which is more than 80 per cent-owned by the UK taxpayer and is likely to prompt difficult questions about its cost-base at a time when it is cutting thousands of jobs.

Hays is company who lies in there recruitment process and jobs advertising to get 'Bums on seats' like most companies not to mention 'Michael Page' whose shares have just been knocked off the board due to the banking recruiting too, not at all suprised with both parties, let alone RBS at a faulter.

Interesting that mate. Hays were always a complete bunch of wasters. I worked in the early days for TAV in Havant as a contractor but had long left them when Hays took them over. I was then in a position to offer work to contractors and Hays were completely useless. They had no conception at all of how the technical contract world worked. Junior office temps were about their barrow and they thought that TAV was just a cash cow. it was when it was run basically as a technical agency. Hays soon saw it off.

from the Telegraph Article 15th Aug:

"In the first six months out banking business grew strongly. However, following the recently announced hiring freezes in the last few weeks, gross profit growth in this sector, which accounts for approximately 10pc of group gross profit, has slowed," the company said in a statement.

i had to keep on reminding them what job interview i went too, as they didn't/couldn't remember - got fed up with them and told them to take me off there list for wasting my time. Followed by them calling me every 6 months to see if i was looking for work, or even lie-ing to me (we might have a job that may be of an interest too you, and are you still looking).

Just So that they can get bums on seats for interviews let alone they dig out dormant registrations and regenerate them to keep there line Mgr happy on with targets thats set. Reed Agency, Michael Page to name a few does that as well.........

Last year i even noticed that, that Reed Agency was so desperate that they started advertising there old jobs in the job centre, as well as taking jobs that were advertised in the job centre and posting them on there web site board.

"Wont deal with these large bums on seats corporate agencies, there NOT recruitment consultants" - may notice that i hate them, as i got screwed by a few agencies before and lost a good job for it moving for better pay.....i even got screwed by an agency when i paid for a CRB check (when i was unemployed, got my money back from them for it though ).

That is a big with job hunting there are hundreds of non-existant jobs advertised and trying to find the real live jobs amongst that lot is a pain.

It is not job agencies that do this but job centres too

Hays recruitment profits jump as Asia business grows

Recruitment firm Hays has reported a 50% jump in underlying profits driven by rapid overseas growth. The net value of fee income in its 2010-11 financial year rose 18% on a like-for-like basis, but that figure masked large regional differences.

In Asia, net fees rose 50%, whereas in the UK - which only comprises a third of its business - they fell 1%. Bottom line profits before tax nearly quadrupled to £111m, thanks to a £24m cut in a regulatory fine. The Office of Fair Trading had fined Hays £30.4m in 2009 for price fixing, but the amount has been reduced on....Read more on this story today----> BBC News - Hays recruitment profits jump as Asia business grows

Hays is primed for a takeover with Adecco heading the queue

There's no getting away from it, recruitment firm Hays is a prime takeover target. Its shares halved last year but have rallied from a 52- week low of 59p to close yesterday 5.85p higher at 79.95p on a hefty turnover of 14m-plus shares amid revived hopes that a bigger European rival will soon put it out of its misery. Dealers heard again that ubiquitous Swiss human resources group Adecco could be lining up a knock-out £2.1bn or 150p-a-share cash bid. Adecco's last major acquisition was its £810m purchase of US staffing group MPS....Read more here-: MARKET REPORT: Hays is primed for a takeover with Adecco heading the queue

But if you are a highly experienced project manager / director working on a project with a value of say £100m plus and you don't have the security or benefits of permanent employment, you are not going to go to work for minimum wage.

The fact that the bank is 80% owned by the government is immaterial. You need the best people to do the job and they do not come cheap, however much Joe Average's jealousy would like them to be.

Folk have to get over it and stop whining.

Nobody would expect them to work for minimum wage, but there is quite a difference between that paltry pittance and £2000 per day!

Really? Would you normally suggest that the interests of the majority shareholders of a company should be ignored, or is this a "special case"

Nor is anyone expecting them to work for low wages, but the astronomical wages paid by an institution that caused this crisis are simply not tolerable.
