Re: Nightwatch & Hubbys Diary of debt

The only bank left to you is a non UK one or a BS, maybe Coventry or Northern Rock. If not look at Bank of Ireland etc..... basically you're screwed with the main banks

HSBC is relative due to M&S debts.....

Or leave it till you do move then consider opening a local account at a local spanish bank?

I can reccommend Coventry, very good Service and NIL charges.

On Spain, if you're buying, our Estate Agent ( only use a reputable one! check EVERYTHING out) in Portugal will be opening a local Bank Account for us. Opening one for yourself can be quite a challenge.

            What about the Post Office?
Some days you're the pigeon, some days you're the statue. I currently spend too many days as the statue......but thanks to this site not as many as I used to!

what post are you referring to?

Coventry is independent however use HSBC BIN Codes etc (means nothing, i.e. no link between banks - they are not linked etc but means they process via HSBC who is their bankers).

Post Office is also independent from other banks....

Re: Nightwatch & Hubbys Diary of debt

I have used the Coventry ever since I left, as in resigned from , Lloyds.
They have always been excellent and no-one has traced anything back to them.

Good luck. On the point of opening a Local Account in Spain. If you can get your Agent to help you out, its very much a nod and a wink with the Local Bank unless you need Lending facilities. I like that sort of arrangement.

Hello Nightwatch and everyone else reading!

I've also recently taken the UE plunge ... all of my creditors have responded in one way or another already. I hope you've got a good filing system there to keep track of the correspondence to and from the different creditors!

One bank that no-one has mentioned is The Co-operative Bank. Even if there's not a branch near you, you can pay in cheques (and draw out cash) at the post office, or pay in cheques by post using a Freepost address. Also free card withdrawals from Link cash machines, and their online banking is really straightforward and easy to use. They've been my main bank for about 17 years and I've never had a single problem with them (touch wood!).

Why are you paying? I would cease payments as the default has been and gone, so unless you get a court claim - what can they do?

Based on the age and type of account, I would seriously consider my options and ask myself, why am I paying this money?
