It's just over a year of UE (and e!) for me, and what can i say other than it has been a huge weight off my shoulders. This relief is down to the excellent family that makes all about debt.

I think i am correct in saying most of us would not have the knowledge, courage and staminar to take on these pirates without the family behind us.

I also enjoy popping in most days (and evenings!) to see how the other members of the gang are getting on. I can't always offer advice unfortunately but help is never far away.

                    Here is to another year!

I am now saving the money each month that was making little difference to the balance and not a bit of difference to my credit file as a result of finding AAD.

Well 1 year ago this week I stumbled across this amazing place when I was scared and in the proceeding week probably at the lowest I have ever been in my life (and that's saying something as I have survived a lot!) Dragging me out of my desperation Niddy and the very lovely Elsa (and others to numerous to mention) guided me through the horrendous situation of being served a statutory demand. Thankfully this resulted in them settling for a F&F payment and I will never forget the relief when I realised I wasn't going to lose my boys home Since then I feel I'm back in control of my finances (I'm even beginning to save a little bit each month) - Most of my credit cards will become statute barred in November this year - one of my largest has been admitted to being unenforceable (£11,550 worth!) and I am working the paper trail with the remaining 3 with fingers and toes crossed I will reach that magical 6 year figure.

I still have a CCJ which I could kick myself over as I got this before I found you lovely people, but I will quietly wait for another 4 years on that one and then hopefully I can sort out our mortgage back onto a fixed rate (having to live with a variable rate at the moment).

For the 4 years I went it alone I was constantly in fear of cars pulling into the street, I had stopped inviting family or friends over for fear of some debt collector knocking the door and couldn't sleep for the worry - one year on I feel released from the pressure, I know if a letter turns up on the mat I only have to turn to here for a friendly ear and a lot of great advice, I no longer feel ashamed or alone. I really cannot thank everyone enough, I feel very inadequate as I'm not able to give advice to help people with their debt but I do try my best to cheer people up along the way if I can.

One year on and over £16,500 worth of debt gone and as I say praying I can get through to November without to much hassle......

Thanks to each and every one of you.

For a lot of people, especially new users, that support and cheering people up is every bit as valuable as pointing them in the direction of the right template etc. The non-judgmental support given to other users is what makes AAD so very different to other debt forums.

                          Well done you

The first year going UE is the hardest,
and the longer it goes on the more you learn

I've just passed my 4th year in UE,
I didn't even get a christmas card/ letter/offer of discount from the DCA
I did get a phone call that I wasn't in to take a few months ago
I think they've fallen out of love with me
It's taken years of hard work to earn the capital N in Numpty

                            • Re: UE - One year on

I've just read Jane's post and realised my UE journey is now just over 2 years in.

I'd been on a DMP with one of the charities for about 5 years, and had CCA'd a number of my creditors when they got stroppy, so in fact I was already on my way.

When I stopped the DMP I expected all hell to break loose, but the silence was deafening. During the first year 4 of my creditors kept on nagging but after being swatted back with the right template letters they simply drifted away...

Now I hear nothing. No Christmas cards, and no calls I know of, ( that's because they don't know my number anymore). This includes my old overdraft which I thought was going to be the one big problem left.

I now just get on with my life older and a hell of a lot wiser, thanks to the help and support of the great people on this site. I'm now looking forward to 2018 when they all become SB.

To anyone reading this and contemplating starting your own UE journey, just hit the 'start' button. I suspect that newbies starting now may not even get the same amount of initial hell that most of us experienced. My opinion is that as the years go on and so the majority of debts become post 2007, people able to use UE will just be put into the pending tray while the efforts of creditors are concentrated on ones they can persue regardless.

This, unfortunately, is the way that many of them operate - they will almost always go after the 'easy pickings' i.e. those that don't put up a fight or are frightened by the threat-o-grams and legalese.

Once you start pushing back, and show that you are aware of consumer law and OFT guidelines its remarkable how many will crawl under the rock they came from.

The consumer is that sleeping giant.!!
