I sent the following email to my brother following my Mum saying there's some debt stuff he needs to deal with. I have no idea how bad it is or what, but I've told him this (via an email to my Mum):
Dear Mum,
This is the debt forums for *****:
http://forums.all-about-debt.co.uk/
He should make a list of all of his debts to each company. If there are two to the same company (eg a credit card and a bank loan to the same company), separate them.
Register on the above forums. Use a pseudonym. Don't use his own name. Niddy is one of the most trustworthy people I know. ***** can say he is "AnonymousA's brother" and he'll know who I am.
Start a thread on the forums. It can be quite hard to know where to start it so I advise:
http://forums.all-about-debt.co.uk/f...-Debt-Matters&
They'll move it to the right place.
Take time to list every debt in a separate post. I would advise listing as much of the following as he can find:
1) the amount of debt
2) when it was taken out
3) the last payment
4) the last correspondence from the company
Then check his thread every day to answer any questions or to follow the advice given.
I strongly advise: NEVER talk on the phone. Just tell them to communicate in writing.
NEVER sign a letter to any company (if they don't have your signature sometimes the debt can be unenforcable, meaning you'll never have to pay anything).
Don't write any letters until advised to on the site.
That's all. They're good people and this will help. Cheers.
