I've just come back from a weekend break to find a moronic letter from More Th>n stating that they've "cancelled [my] home insurance policy from 27/06/2015. This was because you didn't pay the premium to renew it, before the end date we gave you."
Well, that's big of them, considering that I DIDN'T AUTHORISE THEM TO RENEW MY INSURANCE IN THE FIRST PLACE. They had failed to bother to respond to an email query on 15 June concerning possible renewal, so they lost my business and I had in fact obtained better cover through Admiral Insurance on 23 June 2015. I have fired off an email direct to the CEO, Stephen Hester, to that effect.
The main thing I need to know is whether this kind of 'cancellation' is covered in the standard "Have you ever had any insurance cancelled or had special terms imposed?" question. I gather from someone who claims to be knowledgeable about these things that such a question only covers cases where insurance has actually been voided due to fraud etc, not administrative matters like this based on attempted 'inertia selling'.
If it IS something I have to declare, what can I do to get this nonsense cleared up? I have little faith in the FOS, as they are utterly spineless. I have heard of something called the Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE). Could I obtain a Subject Access Request from them and take it from there?
