  • Re: Hooray Hall. Adventures of a Handyman pt2

Phew it's been hot today. In fact too hot for some of the Swallow Fledglings in my garage. They keep fluttering out of the nest and they must be a week away from flying yet.

It's been a full time job rounding them up and using an 18 foot ladder putting them back, only for them to escape again.

Luckily Millie the cat has mice on the menu. The young from the other nest that has fledged are using her for target practice. The Avian spitfires are zooming within inches of her. All she can do is hide under the car as they are too quick and too many.

Still waiting for news of the Cliff Fall at Burton Bradstock. Its near the beach where I sometimes walk my dogs. I can't see how anyone could survive under 400 tons of rock.

I was sick to my stomach today when I heard that the home of the old girl that was killed in the Tunnel Collapse had her home burgled.

I could say something about the Local Plod and the immigrant population but that's just a suspicion.

    Regards all, Handy

Edit, I see from the news they have now recovered a body of a 22 year old woman. Gutted. Those cliffs are only partially formed rock after the rain and now the heat there will be more falls, but folk don't heed the warnings. It has been suggested that people went climbing over the rocks looking for fossils after the first landslide. Madness, but my heart goes out to family and Friends never the less.

Och I went to bed at 7 (as I didn't sleep well last night) so like didn't hear about them finding a body. Though I agree. Would be pretty impossible to survive that landslide.

I agree about the local immigrant population. Local plod will do nothing about it .. Pants!!!!

Ratties are fine. They have mites so they're on spot on. But they are doing champion though milo has a problem with his hips so he's not as perky as he once was.

Och shame about the fodscrotums. I'm sure I could fix something if really necessary. How about ant spray? Or powder from the pound shop? (do you have such things as pound shops in the posh part of the world)..

Loved your videos. Yeah it's hot but not as hot as what it is your neck of the woods.

PS. Did discharge from rehab team yesterday. Have 13 days (if I keep within budget till debt free and got given some chanel no.5 eau de parfum yesterday from a friend who was having a clear out and didn't want it

Hi all. I have been AWOL from my thread for a while cos as I hope some of you will have gathered I have had my minds on other things.
I really should be working on it now, but as most Folk will be watching the opening ceremony I suppose it can wait until tomorrow.

To bring you all up to speed, Lady Hooray is acting as normal. After complaining I wasn't getting enough done when it was raining, I am now not getting enough done now it's hot. spend an hour each evening watering all the tubs and pots in my own time and still she complains. Some of the plants have root rot but you can't tell her.

Moans and Growns, she's so tired. I have lost count of the party's and lunches she's thrown in the last 3 weeks. All I know is a dozen cases of wine have been drunk in that time.

Mrs Handy sees the Surgeon next week. Her leg is still not right. Problem is she wont do as she has been told to relieve the pain and recuperate. I am worried silly as she is showing signs of Alzheimer's. But how do you get it through to someone they have a problem. Her mood swings are horrible. It's not the pain or medication because things have not been right for a while.

She won't talk about it as my mentioning is making it worse. I know all about when people go in to denial over it. The first Mrs Handy started with the big A in her early 40's and Mum has been in a home for coming up 4 years. Lord Hooray had a form of it. So I know how it goes and I feel so helpless. It's no good looking for help from her lot So I will just go on until something happens.

Now on a brighter note, and what I actually intended to tell you about. I have been having problems with Birds The feathered kind. The Swallows have come back to my garage for the third year running. One nest had 5 chicks. When they got too big for the nest but still not able to fly. They fluttered down to the floor and hid under the mowers. With the help of an 18 foot ladder I got them back in the nest. Problem was the little boogers wouldn't stay there. Before I moved the ladder they were using it as a roost. OK they are cute but they don't half make a mess.

Then today I found a Racing Pigeon trying to get in the back door of the hall. I had several attempts at catching it (if Lady H's terriers had seen it ) before if struggled into the air.

2 minutes later it was sat outside Handy's cottage. This time it came straight to me. With the help of a nice Lady from the Welsh Pigeon Union we identified it's leg ring. She struggled to identify the number. I am now waiting for an email from its owner In Fredricksburg Virginia USA.

It's in good condition if not a little knackered. After some food and water it got quite feisty and wanted to be off again. All I can think of is that it got a lift across the Atlantic on a passing ship and hopped off somewhere past Lands End.

Handy, I'm so sorry to hear of the troubles you are having and of your concerns over Mrs H. I do hope you are wrong with your diagnosis, and that it turns out to be something much less serious xx

As for the swallows, they are indeed beautiful creatures, but I do wonder how such gorgeous little things can create soooo much shyte! There again, the same goes for our own young

Good luck with getting your adopted pigeon back home - have you named him yet?

WOW, that pigeon have come a long way! Amazing.
My dad would have been in his element, and he seemed to have attracted them as well, the feathered ones of course lol. And you taking good care of it too, that is fab Handy, good for you and credit to you too.

Hope you receive the email soon then, I bet they will be amazed too.

Hope all is OK at home, sounds like you have a lot on your plate to deal with and it's a no win situation, rain then it's far too hot, it can be a right pain when it wants to be "the weather"!

Sorry to hear that Mrs Handy is having problems with her leg, wishing things to get better soon Handy, and I know what you mean about the Alzheimer's issue, it's not an easy one.

My son he is a Co ordinator (Care manager) and he was on call last night, and one of his care staff was having problems with a client, bless him too, he also suffers the cruel illness, although he can be fine in between too.

With my dad attending assessments some years back it was discussed with him by his consultant in early stages, but it's getting them to go to the appointment in the first place was the problem.
Is Mrs Handy due to see her GP at anytime soon?
If so, it maybe worth you trying to have a quiet word and raise your concerns with them, see if they can help in any way.

I know it's an awkward one! Yet with a bit of luck it may not be the problem with Mrs Handy, and you are of course bound to worry until you can get some answers on what is going on, and yet it could be nothing to do with that illness, and something else they can help deal with. Fingers crossed.

Thinking of you and your family x

Handy, I hope things start to improve for you. I don't know what the care services are like where you live but dad was in Cornwall, which isn't that far away and the support received was phenomenal and couldn't be faulted.

                Yay head better this am

Talking again and despite not taking my pills managed to sleep. Don't know exactly what the police were doing phoning me at 2am. Hope they not wake the neighbours banging on the door

Social worker on Monday. Hmmm.....Don't want a social worker...they are bad beings (apart from the duty ones) and Dr. C (leg end) on Thursday. Either of these could muck up my move to a fab 2 bed (more space for books and mess ) ground floor flat just north of me....

Praying types pray that my boxes turn up from amazon soon and that they are okay. Have ordered loads (cos I have a lot of stuff )

                Then the packing begins....

SF's coming with me though poor bob wasn't looking great last night. I let him out on the sofa and he was fine (full of it) but I don't know. Milo still has mites so they got their spot on last night. Hope I don't move before the spot on treatment is finished.

                So yeah....MOVE

Well still haven't heard back from Donald's owner. I may have to give him a few lessons in Navigation and send him on his way.

Trying to keep the shed open for fresh air for him/her and keep Millie the cat out is proving difficult. I caught her sneaking round the door this morning licking her lips in anticipation

If she wants a Pigeon dinner there are plenty of wild ones around here.

Hi all, just a quick update on my Pigeon (or Duck according to Clever)

I didn't hear anything back from the States. The poor thing was getting miserable stuck in a cage on its own. But I found a local chap who breeds Champion Pigeons for the Arabs. He has taken it in. Not for breeding or anything but to pass on to a mate who just keeps Pigeons and Doves for fun and to show.

So hopefully it will have a Happy and Long Life from here on in.

Did you not realise Handy is an Old Softy where animals are concerned.

Good Evening all. I thought I would knock the dust of the thread to let you all know Handy is still alive and well. Those who know me from FB will know I had kid Sis and Bil down for a few days and then we had the Grand Kiddles and their Parents straight after. So for the past 2 weeks it has been Family time.

Just prior to that I had another mega bust up with Her Ladyship. But those are so common these days I didn't even want to mention it because by now you readers must be bored with all her explosions.

Anyway we had a great week with the wee ones, Mrs Handy's knee just about stood up (pardon the pun) to all the activity.

It's not the kids that are hard work it's the parents. DD is a face book mum, who would rather spend time on line than see to the waines. SIL likes to be in charge balling, and ordering the kids about. By the end of the week I thought Mrs Handy was going to brain him with a blunt instrument.

Sunday was a strange day, It was sooo quiet! The house was tidy apart from the mountain of washing they left the missus. Even the dogs wanted to slob out.

I went my first day in a month without a shave and even got in an afternoon nap. It was bliss. Even Cassie the youngest Border Terrier wanted to join in.

Facebook has a lot to answer for!

I do use it...but not to post every single thing I do.

I really hate seeing Mum's on their phones while ignoring their children. They're only young once so enjoy that time with them...pop onto fb when the little ones are in bed.

My eldest DD must be very unusual for her generation as she doesn't even have a fb account.
