  • Help!

I have the following debts which I have been paying for approx 5 years at least on informal arrangements of a couple of pounds a month with no hope of ever clearing them. They have all accepted my budget sheet and I don't get any hassle. However I have now inherited a small amount of money but not enough to pay the debts in full, but I'd like to have a go at making offers of payment. In an ideal world if they would accept 50% payment I could clear them! I'm after any advice people can give me about how to persuade thrm to accept these offers!!

    Tesco now with frederickson £2082
    Vanquisnow with moorcroft £3498
Barclaycard now with Robinson way £6808
    Natwest now with apex £6695

I have no idea if these are still classed as enforceable but want to settle them if I can as I know this is money I have borrowed. Ideally id like them to show as fully settled on my credit history! Any help gratefully appreciated!

    Re: Help!

Why do you need your credit history cleared? Even if you pay these off at 50% they will still show as debt on your credit history for 6 years. longer if they are being marked as an arrangement to pay

in your position, I would celebrate the windfall, stick it away somewhere safe in an account and keep on paying the tiniest amount possible as long as they are giving you no hassle. If they start to hassle you, you send CCAs and start looking at the UE position.

welcome to AAD by the way!

        Re: Help!

        Hi Scally18,
Welcome to AAD, you are in good hands here. I found the forum many moons ago in a similar position to yourself. My Girlfriend inherited some money from her Grandfather and her parents were itching for us to get our first house together and then i had to let them know my credit history was trash. Not knowing how these things worked, the logical thing to do is clear it all off but the truth is it makes no difference if you pay or not with regards to your credit report. Once you have default listed - its there for six years whether you like it or not. Yes, AAD has helped some get them removed, but that is when they have been entered in error, not when it is a true account of what happened (i.e you stopped making payments). I can only echo what has been said above and keep hold of your money.
        Cheers

I am now saving the money each month that was making little difference to the balance and not a bit of difference to my credit file as a result of finding AAD.
