  • Advice on having small debts written off while on sick

    Hello

this is my first post here

currently i have 12 creditors and the balance on 8 of them are all under £150, with me being off work currently due to health reasons i was wondering if its worth writing to these creditors and asking if they will write the debts off due to my health situation? also the fact i dont know when i will be returning and i cant afford to pay them!

i would rather see if i can get the debts wrote off completely before waiting to return to work then offering them a settlement amount.

if its worth a try can anyone recommend a specific template to use so the wording is right

appreciate any advice from anyone, especially if anyone has been through this situation before

    thanks.

    welcome to AAD

    difficult one here

    how old are the debts?
    what sort of debts?
sorry to have to ask, but how ill are you, do you expect to be ble to return to work at some time in the future.

Basically they won't entertain writing anything off for medical reasons if there is any chance that they will get their money in the future.

However, they will trash your credit record for these debts if you do not meet the monthly payments, you are deemed to have defaulted on the contract and then they will be able to register a default with the CRAS

if you could give a few more details, we can have a look and see what can be done, the dates are particularly important and the type of debt also.

      Hi MrsD

i am off for mental health reasons, i was going to see if the creditors would consider writing my smaller debts off telling them i am unable to advise in my circumstances there is no return to work date and i cant make any substantial payments to any creditor like i was before to see what they say.

as far for my credit record been trashed it wont make much difference as it already has a few defaults on it.

the 8 debts i'm referring to are below, i have marked in brackets what each one is (ones that are not marked in brackets are payday loans)

Capital One (Europe) Plc (credit card) £79.40
      Capital Resolve £96.16
      CashEuroNet UK 6225220 £104.72
      Credit Resource Solutions Ltd £130.10
      Lloyds Bank plc (overdraft) £128.58
      Opos Limited £35.84
PRA Group Ltd (barclaycard Credit card) £152.18
      Speedy Cash £77.33

as far as the exact dates go i will have to do some digging and get back to you, im almost certain they are all over 3/4 years old, i will confirm this.
i'm currently in a DMP with payplan at the moment which i would like to get off as all the money i have put in the past these smaller debts remain and its been leaving me with next to nothing come payday!

ok you didn't say you were with Payplan

you have two options, stop paying and ride it out unlikely they'll go to the expense of court for these amounts, but no guarantees.
        or
speak to Payplan and rearrange your payments to what you can afford, £1 each debt per month if necessary. You just need to tell Payplan what to do,

It is your decision in the end, but I don't think they will write off in this instance, they don't write off often and it has to be very serious before they do. sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

ok, i'll think over this one.

i had one written off a few years ago for 895 quid when i was off work, it was one of those companies that offer the microsoft courses through the reed website, so i suppose it cant hurt to try

          thanks for the advice.
