  • Removal of default

    Hi,

I recently checked my credit file and noticed a default has been entered on there for an old debt. It's a little strange though as it is currently showing as not satisfied although there is an outstanding balance of 'zero.' I am currently trying to get my finances in order, as I am trying to secure a mortgage. This default is acting as a barrier and I was wondering if it would be worth my while contacting the company offering to pay off this debt if they would remove the default? Only thing is i do not want to open a can of worms. Any advice please??

    Thank you

    Hiya & Welcome

Do you have any other details, such as when the debt started, last paid, and even better who is the original creditor?

    Thanks

      Re: Removal of default

Hi, Thanks for your response and sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I just needed to find the paper work.

The lender was shopacheck. It states the original balance was £875, Current balance - closed January 2011. Account holder status - Normal, Account status - Default. Default date - 17/01/11, Default Satisfied Date - 17/01/11.

Do you think there is any way I could get this default removed? Was considering ringing them to see if I paid them would they remove it? Don't know if I would be opening a can of worms though?

      Thanks

Ahh forget your credit report entry. I'm
Asking YOU when you opened it and last paid into it?

          Re: Removal of default

          Hi,

According to the credit file, it was opened in March 2009. I was paying it off weekly for quite a while, so have probably paid a fair amount off already. Not sure when last payment was made but was probably late 2009.

          Thanks
