    Hi forum,

I'm currently unemployed with several thousand pounds worth of (credit card, council tax, HMRC and utility bills) debt, however I'm planning to purchase a van and start a business in the (very near) future. It’s my intention to make the necessary arrangements to (gradually) clear the debts as/when i’m financially able.

    My questions are:
Do bailiffs have a legal right to seize my vehicle? If yes, what are the various methods I can employ to ensure that my vehicle cannot legally be seized by bailiffs?Which business 'legal structure' would be best recommended for my business with regards to my particular (debt) situation?

If you're a limited company a bailiff cannot touch anything. If you have a partner, make them the registered owner (you'd be registered driver/keeper).

I'd not jump in paying credit card debts, HMRC & Council tax are priority so concentrate on those - credit card debt will NOT end up with bailiffs - you'll be fine but sort the HMRC/C-Tax debts asap (ideally via repayment - even £1 per week is better than nothing and they're the nasty ones who CAN (and will) get bailiffs)

If by any chance you can get credit. Put a little hp on the van. They can't take a van with hp cos it technically isn't owned by you.
