Agreed - it's pure phishing to try to make you get in contact. Stay well clear of it. My wife had something almost identical yesterday!

Just had a CFS completed by an independant. Not involved with any of the big organisations.

Now I know what "expendable" income we have.

What do people advise as the best "next step"?

The person that did my CFS has kindly offered to work on our DMP for us if we so choose.(They can legally do this)

Would we be better off taking them up on this kind offer or going to a bigger organisation?

Just looking for advice as soon as possible really.

If they charge stay away from them, no point giving them money every month when it could be going to your creditors!
CCCS and Payplan will not charge you and are well known by creditors so you get the debt paid faster.
When you have nothing you have nothing to lose

The way I read this was that all would be free, it was more a question of is it of more benefit to go with a recognised name than a small charity.

Hopefully BlueArmy will correct me if I've misread this.

Just to update this. All my credit cards and wifes credit cards have been accepted on a dmp. All interest and charges have been stopped. Just awaiting results from a couple of home shopping accounts now.

Though I would update in case anyone reads this and wonders where I am up to....

Another update. All my creditors have accepted my DMP apart from Argos. They have handed over to Moorcroft DCA.

I used the AAD in-house Debt advice company (Ask Niddy for info) to work on my DMP. They have done an amazing job for me and got me sorted within a few weeks. So , so helpful. Nothing is too much trouble and can be contacted so easily. Things just get done when they says they will. Also, I prefer dealing with a smaller company rather that one of the large ones like payplan or CCCS. It just seems more personal and I get more input. At first I thought I would have more chance of my DMP offers being accepted if I used CCCS as they are a huge well known outfit, but everything went well. I know a lot of people do their own DMP but its well worth getting help at the off.

Thanks to Niddy and everyone else for the advice. Hopefully everything will fall into place by Christmas and I can relax once more.

That's good news - Moorcroft should not be a problem as they are not too tenacious. In any case, I would imagine if everyone else has accepted, they don't really have much say in the matter.

If it hasn't already been done, you want to ask that a default be registered against you as soon as possible to minimise any damage to your credit file.

I would guess the thing is that even if Argos don't play ball, I'd imagine you keep paying them what was offered. What would a judge say to them in court? I guess it would rhyme with Hiss and end in off.
